Leak mitigation

I have an American Teardrop Eagle 2011 and I have never been able to seal my hatch. I would like to know if there is a drip trim I can apply to divert water on the roof side walls junction to the hatch hinge. The inside hatch wall is completely rotted and has to be repaired. I'm so tired of dealing with it.Thank you.

Sorry to hear this. If you can post some pictures of the damage and the area around it, we should be able to offer some help. Typically the hinge should extend beyond the sides 1/2 - 1" to divert water. But without knowing where the leak is it's hard to give you a good answer.

Interior panel is wet and rotted .I've silicone sealed, weather stripped, added a plastic downspout to hinge ends ,put marine varnish on wood panel, even had to put brackets on hatch floor to the sides to prevent the sides widening and coming apart.

Ouch.

Most teardroppers will tell you that the hurricane hinge needs to go about 1/2" beyond the wall. That's the standard and what I think caused this disaster.

I agree. The American Teardrop construction didn't provide an overhang. In your opinion should I simply add something as an overhang or replace the hinge? I'm afraid if I attempt to replace it I may cause other issues. What would you do?

I'd replace the hinge. What other issues might that cause?

Thanks. I agree that might be the best solution but I'm concerned that the previous screw holes might be an issue. Would you fill all the holes first then put the hinge on? I've never done this so I'm not sure what I would be getting myself into.

I'd fill them with epoxy or thin CA glue.
