I must be getting old, the thermometer looked like a good idea. I found this one that has a voltmeter built into it and is backlit. I plan on putting it in the cabin of mine.

I picked one up after work today. It has a battery backup in it so you don't need the 12v except to run the backlight and the voltmeter. It seems to be fairly accurate, at least it was pretty close to the gauges in my truck on the way home. I couldn't tell which was more accurate, the temp gauge or the truck, which is good enough for me.
