head or feet towards hitch for sleeping

Postby bobhenry » Tue May 29, 2007 7:18 am

Old what's her name and I are discussing sleeping positions. We are at a point in the build that electrics and shelving fo a small TV are needed.
The 30" door is hinged 24" from the rounded nose of the tear and we can still go either way. Profile is in my album !

head towards hitch. easier entry and egress. not as noisy when one of you is banging around in the galley making breakfast, playing the galley stereo, watching movies in the galley, etc.

Head at the hitch, this way you can sleep a little inclined and watch video on the shelf/hatch at night, or in the rain.

Something to think about is where are the interior cabinets and shelf going. Do you want to sleep with your head under the cabinet when just about every time you get up you'll start talking to yourself. :? Then if you add no cabinets but include a shelf up front, to prevent banging your head when getting up (or even sitting up), it could interfere with your entry into the tear.

I sleep with my feet toward the hitch. With my head toward the galley, it makes it easier for the nightly cooler raid (I have doors that open from the sleeping area to the galley.)

Door near front, head near back... when dog gets in, goes on foot of bed and onto it's own bed at front... keeps sand away from pillows..

Front is taller and allows space for TV, heater and a/c....

Also, keeps dirt/sand from my feet off top of bed.. I use the dog bed area to put on shoes, then swing feet out onto ground.....

Guess I could put door at back along with dog bed, never thought about it.

We test drove the tear about 1/2 complete and decided feet at hitch.
Doors are 2' from front of tear allowing 15" deep side to side cabinets that are 18" tall. They leave just enough space at center for a small tv radio combo. The top of the cabinets form a nice shelf that would make a good shoe storage area. There is plenty of room below. The point about the dog at the foot of the bed made a good point as our Scottie WILL NOT be left at home. She said so !!

I like having my head at the front of the trailer...the windows just allow better air movement when the fan is working and I'd rather have a cooler top half than bottom, as I run the fan so that it pulls air in through the windows. I also camp with a dog...I just put down a sheet for her to get in on that I can pull out and shake out the dirt and sand. Also nice to be able to just reach over and pull a curtain aside to see what is going on outside. Besides...I like waking up in the morning when others are starting to stir and just open the door and hang out and watch the activities, while laying in bed. Just my opinion... Doug

It would be a trick to sleep in my trailer head to rear, there just ain't enough room.

Most tears have the doors towards the front of the trailer. It's just easier to sit in the door, kick off your shoes, lean back and swing your feet to the rear of the tear.
If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always got.
