New Cobbler attempt

Postby DRYVEM » Wed Aug 01, 2007 11:43 am

I made a blackberry cobbler last night from a new recipe book. It was made all from scratch and turned out very well. Here are some photos that were taken before the cobbler mysteriously disappeared.

I don't know if we are going to make it to LaPine. We are leaving on the 24th of Aug. and heading to Goodguys show in Pleasanton, Ca., then on to Yosemite for a few days, Lake Tahoe and then Sparks, NV. for the Rib Cookoff. I don't think we will leave Reno/Sparks until Sat. Sept. 1st. You will get ALL the good deals at the auction. 8)

Barbara,
A rib cook off, eh???
Are you guys going as contestants or consumers???
If as consumers, please take notes!!!
It's somewhat unkown here, but only to a few...
Cookin' with smoke was, still is, a big passion of mine before I found cast iron...
Enjoy them ribs!!!
Just showed my neighbor how I do baby backs just the other night...
About the auction...
Joanie has asked me to cool it on cast iron purchases for a while...
Maybe when I find a better place to store the stuff, instead of the floor. :R
(Ran out of cupboard space a long time ago...)
Have a safe trip!!!

Jiffy Fruit Cobbler

1 C. butter
2 C. flour
2 C. sugar
4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 C. milk
3 cups you favorite fruit
1/2 tsp. pepper
1 1/2 tsp. nutmeg

Melt butter in 12" DO. Mix flour, milk, sugar, baking powder, salt nutmeg and pepper until smooth. Pour into melted butter, stirring gently. Add fruit WITHOUT stirring again. Bake with 15 coals on bottom and 20 coals on top for 30-40 minutes or until crust is browned. ( I will use less coals on the bottom next time, due to excessive browning on the bottom)

Is that a DO thing in Pleasanton? My brother lives there and I might get him to show up for me.

Ok, this was so good I made it again last night. Only used 12 coals on the bottom and 20 on top. Did not have any excessive browning issues.

No, it is a big car show. I wish there was a DO to go along with it.
