Our Summer Roadtrip

Postby Jack J » Sat Sep 29, 2007 12:14 pm

This last summer we took a 5 week cross country trip from Washington state to Minden NE. for the 2nd ITG Gathering, and then onto Maine for a lobster dinner and back. Here is a link to a photo site with pictures and descriptions of the fun we had.

2007 Roadtrip

As TD owners know or will know when they get theirs built, it is hard to keep on a schedule when people want to look at the trailer while you are stopped. But it is fun to hear the stories of people that remember this simple camping style.

Here is another link to when we went to my home town in Wisconsin and then to the 1st ITG gathering in 2005.

2005 Roadtrip

I hope you enjoy this and for those still building, it will give you a hint of the fun you can look forward to when you are done and out on the road.

Fantastic pics!!!

I've driven coast-to-coast a few times, most recently in a Miata. Am looking forward to a teardrop cross-country in the next year or so.

There is nothing like a big, big roadtrip.

Your journey is an inspiration.

Love your car, too. Wasn't sure at first if I was looking at vintage pics or 2007.

Jack, thanks for sharing your great trip with us, I'm envious, beautiful photography. I enjoyed your tongue in cheek narration. Hopefully we will be getting out on the open road for a long trip someday. We have the dog issue too and it cost dearly to board her. Were looking at Feb 16th for the Mid-Winter Luncheon, see you then, :D Danny

Looks like a great trip! One of your photos is familiar, its a picture of a lake freighter. Looks like it was taken in port huron, michigan. If so my brother and I spotted you as you where crossing the Bluewater bridge he pointed you out saying there goes one of those teardrops like you are building.

Thanks for the pictures and the travelogue. I hope to make that kind of trip one day.

Your car and trailer look great together.
Still graced with two eyes and ten fingers (due in no small part to luck!).

Just when you think a problem is solved, an uglier result replaces it.

Very cool, Jack. I'd like to do something like that with my TD and '38 Chevy, but I think my TD is too heavy for the Chevy (pun intended). Just wondering...what is the size and weight of your TD?

It was a great trip and we are already starting to plan the next roadtrip. Whether we go for a weekend, a week or on this five week trip, it never seems to be enough time.

demtears,

That was the place. It was strange to think such a large amount ofwater was freshwater and not the ocean that I am used to seeing. So that was you that was pointing at us as we crossed the bridge. lol
What a great view while crossing. Wish I could have stopped on the bridge and taken more photos.

Steve H, my TD is a 4x9. We weighed it a few years ago while on a trip in Oregon and it was 1030 lb loaded. The 235 6cyl in the '51 does okay with it. Not the fastest on the road but I was never one to be in a hurry while driving. Besides you see more scenery when you take your time.

tear too heavy for chevy

Postby Oregonian » Wed Oct 31, 2007 9:08 pm

unless the teardrop is heavier than your chevy, i wouldn't even worry about towing it. I towed a tear that weighed 1029 lbs with a postal jeep to Langley B.C. for the annual car show and met 8 more units there. Had NO trouble the whole way, 17 miles per gallon average, temp. ran where it was supposed to, so if you have a six cylinder or eight, NO PROBLEM. you won't even know it's back there

Our Summer Roadtrip

Postby Pdbeta » Fri Nov 02, 2007 12:18 pm

Jack
I had the pleasure of your company, ever so briefly, when you stopped by, with your pleasant wife, at a "Gathering" I was attending @ Lackwanna SP/PA. Maybe June/July?
We met just weeks prior to my own odyssey? You however drove a vintage ride, georgeous, I might add and nearly bug free!
I went modern, and got creamed with bugs!
Great photo's!
I beleive i have one or two, shots, of your ride/combo!
