Are your teardrop trailer wheels steel or aluminum?

Postby Esteban » Wed Aug 15, 2007 4:59 pm

I'm nearing the time to buy trailer wheels. Will be building a 5x10 custom frame. Can't decide whether to buy inexpensive painted steel trailer wheels or fancier/more expensive aluminum wheels. Which did you choose for your teardrop? Why? Would you want to use them again if you started over?

I have basic white steel wheels that I have dressed up a little with some SS trim rings and chrome lug nuts.

There is a place that sells used wheels here. I want to hopefully pick up a pair of aluminum "Slots"

too cheep to buy new wheels, so I took the front 48 chrome spoke wheels off my car and put them on the tear. Looks OK?

I'm using aluminum wheels from a 87 Lincoln Town Car, same as is on my 53 F100.

Cheap white mod trailer wheel and import tires for me. Less than $50 a wheel, I just buy a complete new one when the tire needs replacing.

I'ld love to have a nice set of light wheels, or some full moon hub caps, as both should improve my fuel economy (probably unmeasureably) slightly. The lack of a significant milage benefit and cost will probably keep me in the cheap steel wheel set.
