I've got some really great friends of a completely opposite political persuasion. I have yet to meet anybody that ever had their opinion changed by a well meaning friend and I have stepped in it many times trying to explain what I believe. For this reason I think Jack's reminder is very timely. I will never meet most of you in person, but I like to think of you as friends and I enjoy reading what you write. It is best to avoid politics and in doing so keep this forum fun for everyone.

I still disagree with half of you. But I hope you never know which half.

Well said Duane, I've never met someone who said they changed their mind because they lost the argument. I've come to learn, Life is to short, I'd rather love and encourage than make my point.
Blessings, Walt

It seems that the big problem in talking about religion and politics is that what one person says, and what the other person hears, are not the same.

For instance, one person says the phrase, "I disagree with you," and the other person hears, "you're an idiot."

So it seems like, to change one's mind about such things is Like admitting one is an idiot.

Hey, seeing how I come from a different planet (as it sometimes seems), I find I disagree with about 95%....

At times, I think we would rather expound, on the few things we disagree with, rather than celebrate the things we agree on.

Actually, I have enjoyed some of the threads that "went bad". In every case, someone in the thread has made a point that I had not thought of. If it makes me think and see a different perspective, especially before casting my vote, I think it's worth having some disagreements. If it degenerates into name calling tirades, then I say pull the thread. Just my opinion.

Naw, don't pull the thread. Just dump the post and restrict the poster for a couple of months.
