Another chickbuilt td!!!!!!

Postby b.bodemer » Tue Oct 07, 2008 9:54 am

My friend Kate visited me throughout the spring and summer at least once a week and together we worked on her convertible teardrop.

At the end of the summer I towed the td to her house where all she needed to do was complete the top and personalize the td cabin and galley.

Kate's one of my favorite kayak friends and it will be fun to join her in future camping and kayaking adventures with her chickbuilt trailer in tow!!!

How does the vinyl handle in transit? Do you know yet? I've been toying with the idea of replacing the top of my hatch with vinyl and the bottom with a tailgate sorta thing but was worried about wind. Nice idea and work!

Very cool Barb!! Lady Teardroppers rock! :beautiful:

Is the roof covering vinyl or a mesh/screen material?

The roof has a screen on it and then the vinyl lays over it. This way on a nice night Kate can roll back the vinyl and peek out at the stars............

I love the concept! The openness is probably very cool too (temperature-wise)!

Here are some photos of Kate's completed td. When I towed the td to her house she was still working on her top. Instead of just pulling the fabric over the side walls and then using snaps she added a strip of vinyl to both sides and truely has a custom cover.

She used a combination of both velcro and snaps to make a custom fit for her convertible top.

Besides the pet screen she also included 1/4" mini cell foam. With the weather turning cold I told her that might even help as insulation for her fall or early spring trips!

Behind the velcro strip Kate used foam weatherstripping as a precasution to keep water from coming inside.

It was a great project and a lot of fun to work with Kate in building her own td!!!
