Cranberry Meatballs - Mmmmm!

Postby Outlaw » Mon Jan 30, 2006 9:41 am

I scored this recipe from a local restaurant owner that I did an event for. This is one of their most popular buffet items and it's simple to make.

1 - 16 oz can Whole Cranberry Sauce (not jelly style)
1 - 12 oz bottle Chili Sauce (not hot dog chili sauce)
1/2 Cup Brown Sugar
1 - Tbsp Lemon Juice (bottled is OK, fresh even better)

Combine ingredients and gently simmer for about 10 mins for an outstanding sauce. Add to your favorite meatball recipe (store bought are fine). These are great in a crock. I can assure you these will be a huge hit at your next pot luck dinner or family gathering. Don't tell them it's cranberry sauce, most will never guess, especially picky eaters that are sure to fall in love with this recipe. ENJOY!

Hey, that sounds good--and not just for meatballs either. Sounds like it would be good on ribs too from the grill, right about when they're ready to come off.

Cranberry Meatballs

Postby gerry boucher » Sat Feb 17, 2007 9:20 pm

Eric

I tried your recipe for Cranberry Meatballs in the Crock and were they good.
I have to make some more for company coming later this week because these will be all gone by then.
Thanks

Eric, around here this sauce is also sometimes used on kielbasa cut up into one-inch (meatball sized) chunks, and on chicken wings for people who like a sweet-hot wing sauce. The kielbasa version is great for parties, and while the wings get a little sloppy, they're a good change from typical red-hot wings.

and a variation if you want:

melt about 1/3 cup orange marmalade with the cranberry relish, and add some minced candied ginger.

Sounds yummy.

I've heard of a similar recipe only it used grape jelly instead of cranberry sauce.

Saw Paula Dean this morning making Fried Stuffing on a Stick. It sounds weird but actually looked pretty good!
Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Hmmm, I just might try that sometime. Sounds like it might "kick it up a notch"
