I thought it might be a good idea to start a topic on repair, parts, and restorations. I don't know if it will "fly" or not, but it seems worth a try.
For example, I just got a Coleman 200a lantern, and it has a 'surging" in it's brightness when it is running. I changed the fuel twice, so the fuel is fresh. I'm thinking either a bad generator, or an air leak somewhere. Does any of you have a suggestion? I will probably replace the generator regardless.

Jeremy or ? has it already been discussed anywhere,s as to how you pros and more experienced go about the cleaning up steps. removing, paint, dents, polishing and with what liquids or tools to or not to use?

It sure is nice to have you gentleman start a thread as this. :applause: :applause: :thumbsup:

I just spent an hour reading those webpages. They were great and answered many questions I had. Thanks for the info, but just brought up new questions. IF I did comepletely strip down a lantern as they did, where would I find REPLACEMENT PARTS??? Such as the packing and washers.... Coleman Canada does not list parts for sale.... Not that I saw anyway........

For any of the parts....carb cleaner will get off all the carbon, works on stainless also...and if you soak the brass pieces in white vinegar and then hit it with some 0000 steel wool and a little polish...they look good as new. Be careful on the little wire tips. Only wipe those parts in 1 direction so as to not bend the tip, or you might be buying one in the future. Just an idea. Doug

Doug you mention the White Vinegar soaking. Is the vinegar diluted with water or is it not ? And how long does one soak the piece or pieces in?

That vinegar only works for brass correct? Not Nickel?

Change out the "plunger/pump" first, or better yet remove the plunger/pump and soak the leather part in oil overnight and see if it works. If not replace plunger/pump and the generator. It should work after that.

Can anybody tell me the part # for a red ventilator for the 200 series?
W W W.oldtownyucc..lists one as 200B4841 in their parts list diagrams, and Old Coleman Parts lists one as #200B1841.

But Nobody Lists The Color!!

Here is the parts diagram for the Canadian 200A.
