Vintage Coleman and other stuff....

Lanterns, stoves, etc... anything old!

Postby doug hodder » Thu Jan 08, 2009 12:17 am

John....from what I can find, the 621 was a 500 candle power lantern, white gas fueled, produced in the mid 70's. I don't have any production numbers on it, but am thinking that it's doubtful that it's rare. I could be wrong on that however, (cover my butt). 621A's were blue, 621B's were brown. Regardless, it's still a nice lantern and is in premium shape. Enjoy! If you see the guy with all the lanterns that is selling them off....take a camera! We all wanna see! Doug

Another silly question... Did they make 200's with brass fonts? Or did somebody just remove the paint from this one and shine it up......

I asked on the Coleman forum & all of the answers are it was not originally brass. Most likely it was nickel or painted an they stripped the paint or buffed the nickel off.

Nice stove Dan! The decal is still available for the inside of the lid. It should be an easy resto on that one. Doug

Can anyone tell me if you can still get LP bottles for this stove, or use what is sold today?

You cannot buy that type propane can anymore. There are a few still floating around out there but I wouldn't count on being able to find them. Some people have converted those to run from another type tank but their conversions appear to be home built. I think someone here on the forum did one about a year ago. Anyone remember who that was? Jeremy (Rainjer) may have more info on it .

Thanks

Postby doitright » Sun Jan 11, 2009 12:13 pm

Thanks that is what I was thinking. I have a 1959 camper and I would like to get all what I use to be about the same age. But not to just display I want to be able to use it. If it can not be used I sure do not want to carry it around. I already have one stove my wife said if I intend to use it she will just stay at home. I repaired the tank on that one.

Yes you can still get the fuel but not retail. There are some collectors that have several cases of the fuel but they charge top $$$$ for it. There is a conversion kit available for it so you can run it off a bulk propane source. It is about $40. You can contact Bob Hitchcock at www.oldcolemanparts.com . He has the conversion kit but does not recommend it.

refill exiting tank

Postby John T. Hodgen » Sun Jan 11, 2009 12:23 pm

Hey doitright,
I have seen someone else say that you maybe able to refill your exiting tank from a bigger tank with one of those kits for refilling the newer lp pony tanks. Don't know 4-sure but it maybe worth checking out. Just my 2cents--nice stove tho!!! John T. :?

They are not refillable. They are not propane. They are a butane blend. The can has a rubber nipple that you pierce to put it on the stove. One you pierce it you can not remove it from the stove until it is empty. They discontinued the fuel in the late 70's.
