Bicycles for campers, rvers, or just riding around where ever you are

Postby dmb90260 » Sun Aug 03, 2008 1:09 am

I did the Rosarita to Ensenada 50 mile ride a couple of time. The first time I was feeling good and sort of cocky as I wandered about Ensenada only to look up and see this Dad come in to town with his crew of three daughters (all small none over 10) with their girlie cruiser white wheeled bikes and flying flags cross the finish line. So much for Mr Macho Man.

shortly after that i went to a mountain bike rally with my rigid fuji and hurt my back. well the doctor did some xrays and found i had a little bit of spina diffida (cant spell that one right) basically was ordered off my bike at that point

still ride sometimes, occasionally hit a trail but it isnt the same as back then.

I didn't see this thread before. Small world I did the HHH 100 in 92, 4:25

Booyah for HHH did the first on back in 91 or 92 and the last in 2003 -- did it maybe 5 times or so. The last time was in 4:45 minutes of ride time -- I'll never be in that kind of shape again. Kind of screwed up the knees the following year and hadden't been back since, but things are starting to look up again and I'm able to knock out 60+ miles without too much trouble. Once I get back to TX I'll start thinking about training for it again -- it's much nicer to finish early before it gets hot -- that motivation enough!!!

I've started MTBing as well and that's a kick. Did a lot in Israel (2 summers) and now over here in Korea -- lots of hills here! Anyway, a century isn't bad if you train and build up to it. There are several 'training schedules' to get you up to speed, a little surfing will turn them up.

I am planing riding one on my new tad pole trike this year. I have not been able to ride my upright/regular bike for more than 15 minutes ever since I developed arthritis in my right wrist and both shoulders about 7 years ago. But now that I have a trike I am able to ride again. I cant wait to try 100 miles on it this summer.

I certainly counted it as a century. Actually it was two centuries, in two days. 208 miles in a weekend. STP has been a highlight of my return to riding. BTW Kirkman I did it on a tadpole trike :)

Has anyone done a recumbent that can handle a person AND a small dog?

That would be a good way to get us all outside this year... :o :D

Some of the recumbents would accommodate a rear rack... and you could put a basket on top of that, and carry the dog in that.

A couple used to come to the Recumbent Retreat that rode a tandem with a vetta box attached to the front that a little dog rode in.
Or, you could use a trailer

Ha, I found a picture:

Greg..... Wow !

Mike...I got my recumbent with a bike rack on the back, you could put a basket on there for your dogs....https://www.terratrike.com/shop/accessories/aluminum-rack-with-elastic-strap/prod_62.html

Or you could use one of these....https://www.terratrike.com/shop/accessories/bob-trailer-yak-plus-with-dry-sak-/prod_58.html

Or this for slow rides....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hi06SFswb7c

I found this pic!

Mike: I have something to use with dogs. It is sort of like those front side baby holders. If you don't mind a dog in your face all the time it will work.
Let me know if you need it.

I'm not sure that would work with a 28 pound dog. :(
