I added in earlier that I pulled with my Toyota Turck but with the Gas crunch and the Cluch bothering my knee and hip I am putting a hitch on my Carolla 2001 and will see if that will work just as well.
Otherwise I will see if I can find a used RAV4 or 4Runner with an Automatic for my long trip

Use a 2003 Ram 3500 Short bed Single rear wheel with the HO Cummins and a 6-speed manual. Gets 23MPG+ on the highway empty and gets 20MPG pulling a 6x12 Uhaul. So I would be willing to bet it would be simular for a tear.

Here is our current fleet of tow vehicles. They are all hitched and available. I don't quite trust the Caballero yet for long distances. I would like to swap out the 305 for a 327 or a 350 and replace the transmission. Then...maybe!!

The Dodge truck is a 4.7 liter and the Jeep is a 4.7 HO. They happily tow anywhere.

Porsche Tow

Postby kevinduffy » Wed Sep 10, 2008 7:02 pm

Looking through all of these posts, I see some nice tow vehicles...but...

No Porsches!

I'll be towing with a Porsche 924S - the only problem is making the Tear narrow enough to see around it in the mirrors of the little car. I may be forced to go with a 4x10 due to the mirror issue. I have a 4x8 motorcycle trailer that I will fix up this weekend with a 5' piece of plywood across the front, drive it around and see what I can see. I would rather have the 5' than a 4', but...we shall see.

Planning the Trip Of A Lifetime with the Porsche and the hand-made home-made Tear...

K

Oh yeah, that's what I'm talking about! I love the old Chevelle Wagons! I got the idea for the moonroof in my tear from my old '71 Vista Cruiser (Cutlass) Wagon. Nice ride.

Not the snazziest rig on the web, but it pulls like a dream and doesn't put us in the poor house when we go to the gas station...

My new tow rig, I'll use the Stepside for short trips and the Town Car for anything over 4-5 hours. I get a max of 24mpg on the freeway without the teardrop, which isn't too bad.
