ZIPLOC OMELETS"

Have you ever heard of this? I haven't , but it sounds like a great idea!

(This works great! Good for when all your family/friends are together
and no one has to wait for their special omelet)

Have guests write their name on a quart-size
ziploc freezer bag with permanent marker.

Crack 2 eggs (large or extra-large) into the bag
(not more than 2) shake to combine them

Put out a variety of ingredients such as:
cheeses, onion, green pepper, tomato,
hash browns, salsa, etc.

Each guest adds prepared ingredients of choice
to their bag and shake, Make sure to get the
air out of the bag and zip it up.
Place the bags into rolling, boiling water for
exactly 13 minutes. You can usually cook
6-8 omelets in a large pot. For more, make
another pot of boiling water.
Open the bags and the omelet will roll out
easily. Be prepared for everyone to be amazed.
Nice to serve with fresh fruit and coffee cake;
everyone gets involved in the process and a
great conversation piece

We do that when canoe camping. Another ziplock recipe it to do oatmeal. Quick oatmeal, salt if desired, sugar if needed and some dried fruit. Just pour in enough boiling water and mush it up. Add milk. Some people even use dry powder milk in the mix, but I prefer the real thing.

If you plan a little you can do cheesecake on a campout.

Yes, cheesecake.

Without a fridge.

In Texas. Camping.

Not in the summer, though. It works anytime the after-dark teperatures go into the 50s or lower.

Buy a "no bake cheesecake" dessert kit and a couple of big Ziplock bags.
At camp, in one Ziplock, mix a 5 ounce can of canned milk with two cans of ice water.

Now, add the filling mix to the bag, seal and knead well for about a minute; set aside (in a cooler if you have one).

In the other bag make the crust with the graham cracker mix and a tablespoon or so of soft margarine; once mixed, lay flat and pat out thin.

After the filling rests 30 minutes (or more), slide the crust out of its bag onto clean paper towels and cut a corner off the filling bag. Pipe the filling onto the crust and serve.

And no dishes to wash !!!! Wonder how many other things we could make in the bags and boiling water ???

Don't forget George Noory! I don't get to listen to C2C/AM much - I can usually pick up the last half hour or so on the way in to work.

But I finally found a link to Midnight in the Desert...

Be safe everyone...

Art used to live and broadcast right here in Vegas before he moved to Pahrump. George is great, but Art is still my favorite. Every time I'm in Pahrump I try to see if I can spot his Ham antennas.

Just heard about cooking eggs this way a few weeks ago. Tried it Labor Day weekend camping with my family. No matter what someone tells about, my mom has done it. She fixed her and my dad an omelet. But you are not supposed to put more than two in a bag. Couldn't tell my mom that. She put 4 in. Does not work. It takes too long to cook and the bag doesn't hold up well. The bag sprung a leak. YUCK! It works great with just 2 eggs. My kids, niece, and sister-in-law loved theirs. (They followed the instructions!)

Wish I had known about cooking eggs this way when I was taking my Camp Fire group camping once a month. Cooking eggs on a two burner stove for 25 or so is too much trouble. Never mind the clean-up eggs leave you with.

I go to work VERY early in the morning. I have a radio on my desk that only gets 2 stations. One of them runs Coast 2 Coast the first hour that I am there. I try to listen to it sometimes. Most mornings, I just have to turn it off after a while. Some of the guests and callers to that show are really "out there". I'm a big-time skeptic when it comes to UFO, big-foot, conspiracy theories and the like.

K for all you egg lovers here is a breakfast that leaves no dishes.

Start with an orange. Cut the peel all the way around the orange about 1/3 of the way down. Eat the orange with a spoon, leaving the peel whole and a little juice in the bottom. Break an egg into the peel and set it directly on coals. In about 10 minutes you will have a perfectly poached very tasty egg.

I tried the boil in the bag, omletts, last weekend, at the beach (Doran Beach, CA), and it worked like a charm. The next time however, I had
a lookie loo, while I making breakfast, and lost track, of cooking time....
