First Annual Lady Teardropper Gathering

This is where the gals can have their very own discussions...

Postby Eunice » Wed Feb 11, 2009 10:03 pm

If we have decided to do gatherings on the same weekend we need to look at Grants website and start looking at dates. There are so many gatherings it is going to be hard to find a time when all of us are able to go to a new one. I think it is a great idea and I hope we can really do this. For everyone with a laptop we can use Skype to see to each other and be able to talk.
Pam we could meet half way!

If you decide you want to spend the night, I have all the tent luxuries you would need, including large, comfy cots. Or, there is a nice coastal town close by called Cedar Key that has accomodations.

I am really glad you will be joining us and we will get to meet you finally.

Becca--unfortunately, I wasn't able to get up to Manatee Springs--the family vacation did take precedence (and Sea World was terrific!)

But I did discover that I now can fly without bad side effects, which makes the idea of my being in your neck of the woods again a real possible thing...and I'm sure we'll meet up somewhere!

Girl's weekend

Postby Carol Reed » Sun Aug 16, 2009 12:20 am

OK, it looks like it has been a while since anybody has discussed this idea, so I think it is a good idea to revive it.

I am new to this, but recently did 5600 miles with my tear; after that, anything else is a piece of cake. So when and where, Ladies ???

Yes, I am planning on the Redwoods. Do I have to wait that long ???

I like to keep my driving to 8 hours or less... on occasion I might go for more. If we want to try on the same weekend at various points around the country and possibly link up via the web or conference phone... I"m game for organizing the Southeast.

What about a one-hour (or so) virtual get-together during IRG III? There will be a lot of us already together at the west coast redwoods. For folks that aren't coming to the redwoods, a couple more gatherings at the same time...maybe on the east coast and somewhere in the middle states...might do it pretty well. I think the past two IRG meets have been in July, which is probably good weather everywhere for everyone, unless you're south of the equator. (I don't know about 'down under'.) We'd just need some people to volunteer to bring the computer equipment needed. Hopefully, we have some computer wizards out there in each spot? Whadyathink?

Wow, 5600 miles? You are a super-trooper. I would like participate, but I am supposed to start writing my dissertation this spring. There is no telling how taxed I'll be with it so I'll have to keep my plans loose...After I graduate, maybe I'll rack up 5600 miles with my teardrop!

One suggested way to link up might be yahoo messenger or skype just to name a few. I am NOT a computer specialist though; there may be other/better choices.

July is awful hot in the South. I've heard the East Coast Nationals for TearJerkers will be in August next year. I can't imagine why anyone would want to camp in the South in either July or August... but if it is going on I'll be there. In the South, it is not only hot, but the humidity is bad as well -- we don't know what a "dry" heat is. :?

Greetings to all; I'm new, too!!

Old Dominion Tearjerkers had a campout at Shenandoah Valley Campground, at Verona, VA. Nice!! Buena Vista, VA, has a nice Park, too. ~~ I'm in North Carolina and don't mind the drive. Folks could come from the North, South, and West. ~~ Tom Johnson Camping Center, in Marion, NC, is ideal for groups and has a nice pavillion for gatherings. Furthermore, they have WiFi if we wanted to communicate with other groups meeting at the same time, across the U.S.

I've been attempting to locate other "Lady Teardroppers" because I love to travel with my Little Guy. This summer I traveled the Blue Ridge Parkway--both directions--and clocked about 1800 miles. I'd love to travel with others!!!! My trip is documented on my blog: http://LorraineFrantzEdwards.blogspot.com

I would be glad to help organize a gathering in the East. I'd like to know of events, too, because probably calendar-of-events I don't know about.

Yes, ladies, let's stir up some conversation on this forum.

Travel safe, and best wishes from Lorraine

Well, down here we summer camp in our air conditioned tiny trailers. Spend the days drinking pina' coladas, frozen margaritas and lots other ice cold beverages. A dunk in a 72 degree spring every now and then keeps the bodies cool. Also we bring lots of electric fans, also beach side camping provides a good sea breeze some of the time. :D
