Rootbeer Cobbler

Postby HMK » Sun Jun 24, 2007 2:26 am

I used to belong to a group of Blacksmiths and they had monthly meetings. One the members little girl is a member of the Dutch Oven Society. Sometimes they were nice and cooked for us. Man, those meals were lip smacking good. One day in particular they made us what they called Rootbeer Cobbler. I just had to get the recipe.

Anyway, it's so easy a caveman could do it. Hope I didn't offend any cavemen.

1 box spice cakemix
2 cans apple pie filling (16oz)
1 can Rootbeer (12oz)
2 tablespoons butter

In a 12-quart Dutch oven, spread butter on bottom. Pour applepie filling into the Dutch oven, and sprinkle the cake mix evenly over the top. With end of fork or spoon, make a swirl in cake mix and then pour in a can of Rootbeer. Cover with lid. Put 8-10 charcoal briquettes on bottom, 16-18 on top. Cook for 50 minutes to 1 hour, or to a golden brown.

This will make you slap your pappy. The first time that I made it at home, I almost ate the whole thing.

That's a great recipe,
I did a variation of it yesterday, I used a french vanilla cake mix with blueberry pie filling and 7up. I'm gonna have to try your version now. :woohoo:

8) Sounds like a delicious one, especially for the novelty of rootbeer, and those who love to drink it. Now we can have our cake, and drink it too.

Lynn,

Take a picture, although the ingredients sound really good!

Mmm...rootbeer.

I've made a Mountain Dew cake with lemon cake mix and a can of Mountain Dew, and it was delicious...wonder if a Mountain Dew cobbler would work. Don't know what I'd use for the filling, though. Image

root beer

Postby doitright » Sat Oct 03, 2009 8:05 pm

I made the cobbler several weeks ago. I used peaches instead. I had some there that did not like peaches and would never liked peach cobbler. But with the spice cake and root beer they loved it.

Hummm – wonder what’s cooking? After reading about root beer cobbler – I decided to give it a try – and also a recipe for tamale pie. Gathered the necessary ingredients
Image

Whitey's Tamale Pie

1/4 cup oil
2 lbs lean Ground beef
2 cups chopped onions
1 green bell pepper chopped
1 serrano pepper minced
8 oz tomatoe sauce
1 8oz can corn
1/4 cup chili powder
1 1/2 tspn salt
1 tbspn ground cumin
1 tbspn garlic powder
1 tbspn dried Mexican Oregano
2 packages Jiffy or pioneer corn bread mix (Unless You are Jeepdad)
1 small can of sliced olives
1/2 tspn of cayenne

Get the meat browned and drained.

Get the onions, pepper and chili going for 3-5 minutes, add the tomatoe sauce, corn, chili powder, salt, cumin, garlic and oregano.Let roll for about 10 minutes..

Make Your cornbread mixed up You can put half the mix in the bottom and then spoon the meat mixture over it and finish by putting the rest of the C.B mixture over the meat..Then put the olives and the cayenne on top

I like to just put all the C.B mix right on top..The key of course is not to place to much heat on the lid..Run like 5-6 under and 10-12 on top..Just dont open the D.O to offten, but take a look after 10-15 minutes to makes sure You dont have to much heat on top

It has a pretty good zip to it,But it is real good beer drinking kind of zip..Enjoy

Prepared as instructed and volia!

Had several reports back on My rootbeer cobbler this weekend all were very positive. I will confess I did get a little too much heat on the bottom but if you didn't dip too deep it really was "Slap your pappy" good.
