Segregation?

Postby Mark72 » Fri Nov 27, 2009 6:37 pm

With new mini forums forming to cover every topic under the sun, Is it driving everyone apart because we are all going straight to only a few topics instead of browsing the creativity of the whole forum? With that asked here is the poll question..Discussion encouraged!

I tend to come on the board and chose "New Posts Since last Visit" and go from there, so the segregation is not effecting me.

That is how I do it.

With the shear volume I only visit the ones with a really intersting topics. It is always over 2 pages when I visit once a day. I may only only click on 3 topics and maybe answer one if it has not been address yet.

I go right to " post since last visit" as well. And come on to this board 2-3 times a day just so the " post since last visit" doesn't get to far ahead of me.

I look at the posts I'm interested in and move on.

There are times that I look into some of the "Super Posts" and I see a lot of people, with a lot of posts, that I have never seen or heard of.

I see this board as being both an information and a chat board.

I'm more interested in the information side, and only post when I have something to say or contribute.

Some people will post just to tell you that they don't know anything about the topic or have nothing to say.

Actual Post wrote:I'm not familiar with the product you are asking about, so I can't help with that.

Another Actual Post wrote: I know what you mean, but unfortunately don't have an answer

Some folks can tell you in great detail how to do something that they have never done.

Some people answer questions that nobody has asked.

And then there's the Hijackers that send the post in a totally different direction.

I remember one where someone asked if there were any teardrops manufactured in a certain Month & Year, A very simple question.

The first 3 posts directly addressed the question.

And then....

There were 2 pages of comments about who was how old in that month and year, where they were, what branch of the service they were in, what toys they played with, when they graduated, girlfriends, how long until they graduated, where they lived, who lived near them then, where they moved after they graduated, where they worked, how long before they worked there, where there parents worked, what school they went to bla bla bla bla

And that's OK.

You'll always have Hijackers, But

I really think that the Super Posts have created a venue for that kind of Hijacked Chit-chat. And the chit-chat starts in the Super Post and stays there. I really don't see Hijacking happening as much anymore.

This is such a big group that it would be hard to guess what the Norm is.

Maybe there's a large number out there that only goes on the "Super Posts" and doesn't look at or take Polls?

Maybe this will become a "Super Post"?

Or maybe this will become the "Anti-Super Post"

Happy Trails

Len
