My tears name???

Postby Dragonryder » Tue Feb 02, 2010 9:00 am

Well, I named mine about halfway through the build. My wife kept telling me that she wanted room for this and room for that so the camper ended up being taller and bigger than I originally planned. Hence the name "Teardrop on Steroids". It will have all the things that a normal teardrop has only bigger to allow for all the goodies. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. ;) 8)
Have a great day and hoping the weather is great no matter where you are!!!

Just a note.

Postby Dragonryder » Tue Feb 02, 2010 10:06 am

Just wanted to say that I really love the names and the story behind the names. This is one of the better threads. I think this thread already exists, but I am a big fan of graphics. How about more people posting pictures to that. I hope to paint a picture of my avatar, Calvin and Hobbes, with large letters on the back of the hatch. Maybe a large dragon with a ryder on the side so you all will know it's me. I don't think you could miss my camper anyways but the graphics and name will verify it. 8)

Early in the build, my wife who is a bit claustrophobic, named it "the coffin". I didn't really care for that connotation, so since I live in the country and plan on using my tear for camping at primitive spots (mostly) for hunting & fishing with my son, I kind of liked "Backroad Bungalow". I also like "Towed Abode". Still not sure which I'll use, or maybe something entirely different.

I've settled on Happy Acres Mobile Asylum. I've been told I could probably benefit from some shock therapy so it seemed a natural. :D

As I was trying to name my teardrop, I was having a blast coming up with possibilities. Most I came up with are combinations of traveling and homes, some are word play, and some just whatever. I'm pretty sure I'm going with "Backroad Bungalow". If anyone wants to entertain any of the following possible names, please feel free. Sorry in advance if some are already in use, I mean no offense, just having a little fun.

Wander Wagon, Country Condo, Jaunt Joint, Ramble Roost, Wander Shack, Wayfarer Wagon, Gypsy Joint, Saunter Shack, Country Cottage, Boondocks Bungalow, Road Rack, Tarmac Townhouse, Cruisin' Cabin, Highway Hostel, Wee Wanderer, Bantam Bivouac, Bantam Bungalow, Peewee Palace, Liliputian Lodge, Crossroads Chalet, Highway Homestead, Country Caboose, Interstate Inn, Drag Away Dorm, Highway Hut, Highway Haven, Pavement Palace, Vacation Villa, Campground Crib, Campground Condo, Campground Caboose, Freeway Flophouse, Little Lodge, Wayfarin' Wigwam, Boulevard Bivouac, Boulevard Bungalow, Draggin' Den, Journey Joint, Blacktop Boudouir, Carefree Caravan

And for aluminum skinned tears...Shiny Shanty, AluMinimum, Alcoa Apartment (maybe trademark problems?)

And my other personal favorites  , Towed Abode (my 2nd choice), Bohemian Bivouac, Campboose and CondoMinimum

A friend from high school stopped by one evening when we were camping. One of his many, many careers includes being a tour guide in Japan. He had an apartment in Tokyo for a few years.

He looked inside our TD, turned to us with a perfect japanese accent and said, "...looks like Japanese apartment." The TD has since been off-handedly called the Tokyo Townhouse.

Becuase I can

Postby EvilScotsman » Mon Feb 22, 2010 6:58 pm

in a blast [or slap or 2x4 upside the head] of inspiration late in the night a few nights ago the theme for my trailer came to me,...Hieronymus Karl Frederick Baron von Munchausen. For one I love the idea of basing my trailer on the greatest storyteller known to manas I am a bit of a showman [nay ALOT of a showman],..and two since I am a bit of a history buff [admitedly its part of my job] throwing bits of historical errata out for all to see does appeal to me. I am thinking on calling the trailer "Das Munchausen" with a small bust of Baron Munchausen above it putting the name on the front panel of trailer,..then put a quote on the backdoor "Your reality, sir, is lies and scheduals and I'm delighted to say that I have no grasp of it whatsoever."
If you are a dreamer, come in.
If you are a dreamer, a wisher, a liar,
A hope-er, a pray-er, a magic bean buyer....
If you're a pretender, come sit by my fire
For we have flax-golden tales to spin.
Come in! Come in!

I guess I should choose "All of the above"... It was "The Woodyard" during construction and then the "Vagabond King" for a few months, which is a cool name but I found that is quite a mouthful and I never actually called it that.

Then an old name coined from way back in it's inception became the defacto name when I started using it, so I thought if I am calling it that, well, then I guess that is it's name, so a few weeks ago it has been finalized as: "The LT". It rolls off the tongue easy, and doesn't sound too grandiose, and it stands for form and function and completely and accurately describes the Teardrop to anyone asking what it is...

It is a "Luxury Tent".
