I haunt the Goodwill, Salvation Army and Habitat ReStor locations of Phoenix looking for a good bargain. Yesterday was my day, it seemed! I thought I'd share, and maybe encourage some of you to post your great finds!

Goodwill
A meat Cleaver for $2.99
2 carving fors for $0.49 each

Another type of thrift store
a pizza paddle for $2.98
a new in the box thermometer BBQ fork for $4.98 (Big Lots)

Big Lots
a new in the box toilet repair kit (that I will install today) for $9.98
and 50 ft of polyester rope for $2.50!

I know. I have a Delta wood lathe that I bought very cheaply a few years ago, but have never used, and a surface planer, DeWalt, that no one has ever used.

I have to watch myself to. It would be too easy to fill up the shop with stuff I want..
The trick is to seprate your wants from your actual needs. I would love a tablesaw but I would use it so seldom that it just wouldnt pay to own one. plus it would suck up alot of valuable space. I think I value open workspace as much as tools...

Cliffmeister2000 that tools if you did NOT have them you would need them look at all the time you have save by have then . It like a spar tire if you have it you wont need but leave home with out and see how far you get with no flat
It is not the return ON my investment that I am concerned about; it is the return OF my investment

That BBQ thermometer fork will ruin steak about as fast as you can use it. NEVER poke a whole in a hot piece of meat, unless you like eating leather.

If you want to use a meat thermometer to know when the meat is done, you have to put it into the meat before it goes on the fire -- and stay there. Don't take it out for about five minutes after the meat comes off the grill.

CD

I only use a thermometer on pork. I won't run the risk for undercooked pork. I use touch, then, when I am certain it is done, I poke it for a guarantee.

Those are the kind of bargains that keep me away. I only go to donate.

I'm in a Freecycle group and only look at "wanted" postings. If I looked at the offerings, I'd be knee deep in stuff.
