Bicycles for campers, rvers, or just riding around where ever you are

My oldest bike is a 1983 Bianchi Italian race bike. It has "stage race geometry," which means slightly lengthened chain stays and more fork rake for all day cruising and a touch more stability than a full on, nervous, twitchy racer, but it's still plenty fast and lively. The chrome's in great shape, too!

I also have a 1993 Bridgestone XO-1 which has become a bit of a cult/collectable bike. That particular model year had a couple of unique features and '93 was near the end of Bridgestone's presence in the U.S. market...plus, it's orange!

Failure of AVA sterm can be a hurban legend too, in french you can make a world play with the world AVA who mean "it will" Attention c'AVA casser. "beware it will break" As i say before i work ten years in a bike shop in the 80's and 90's and i think i saw one time a french sterm broken and never heard of a recall. But i say many broken fork and frames. The steel sterm broke on my bike when i was a kid but it was not me who was riding it, it was a guy with his young daughter. We get the serm welded at the neigourhood car shop.

Yeah.. I can see Sheldon being knowledgeable about them in that case. I am not sure they had recalls back when the AVA stems came out.

Companies are not always great at letting you know. The broken stem that almost did me in.. was recalled. The shop I worked at when it was purchased was never notified, nor was the shop, I worked at, at the time of the accident, despite our selling a lot of their stems.

Even in talking with the company about it after the accident.. I asked if there was other problem stems that we should know about.. and they said NO.. I re-asked No? and they once again answered no.

Well my co-worker and I each had an older different version of their stem.. that broke.. one that at the time they admitted was a problem!!!!

I asked them about that one.. and they go oh yeah.. well that one also :x :x :x

I myself have been a pro wrench for the last 28 years.

Steve

sweet bikes.. and they appear in great shape.

I have an old Bridgestone also although it does not look as good as yours.
I have an MB1 back when it came with dirt drops. It was a favorite.. and it has been well used. :D

I was very disappointed when they chose to pull out of the US market.

Thanks! They're riders not show bikes but they've not been badly used. I take care of my toys.

That drop-bar MB-1 was a sweet bike!

They didn't really have a choice--the Yen to Dollar exchange rate was killing them. Besides, Grant went on to do great things with Rivendell Bicycle Works, his new company.

I own a few Rivs and they're fantastic bikes. And he's had far more impact (in a good way) on the bicycle industry there than he ever could have with B-stone...

Here's mine, bought it sometime around 1989 or 1990. I just pulled it down out of the rafters. Now it's time to clean it up and start riding again.
 :worship:

Also agree! Wish it would get a little cooler and less humid here so I could get out more! Spent most of the summer inside! :(
