:? Seems like a broken record, but we had another hot, humid weekend. I didn't get to work on the Beatle on Sunday, but I did spend about 12 hours in the garage on Saturday.

Last weekend, I cut the hole for the vent fan. This weekend, I installed the fan. As has been my mantra, I used 3M 4200 as a sealant (in addition to the gasket supplied with the fan.)

Image

Image

Next up was to install the hatch trim. I had formed it to shape previously, but hadn't installed it. First, a little more sealant.

Image

Then fasten with blind rivets.

Image

The trim is now installed.

Image

Time to move on to the doors. I had partially pre-built them with my walls, so they've been sitting around for about a year. Good news is that they didn't warp.

Image

I added insulation and then PL premium.

Image

The 1/8" plywood skin was added. I used a j-roller to distribute the adhesive and flatten the plywood. Then it was fastened with backer strips and screws.

Image

Last thing for Saturday was to make spacers for the hinges. I used 1/8" thick weather and UV-resistant UHMW plastic. It machines very easily with regular woodworking tools.

I'm happy with my one day of work. Take care.

The dog days of summer are definitely upon us, all across the nation! If the garage doesn't get cooled down in the morning, many of us can forget about working in it at all on that day.
This :sweaty: makes a person miss this: :rainy: at least a little bit.

Still, you got a lot done on Saturday! Not a bad day's work. Pat yourself on the back and holler "Yes"! :applause:

Love those hinges Tom! I was gonna use the same ones! Looks like they have a nice door trim gap too! I also used a similar plastic backing to like it off the body, I used cut offs from my hatch hinge.

The trim looks great too, I like the rivets! Looks great! !! Good job working in the heat!!!

Thanks for keeping me motivated with your nice comments.

Today, the oral surgeon drilled a hole in my lower jaw and put in a threaded insert (for a dental implant.) I won't let this hold me up. I plan on taking off work on Thursday and Friday to get in some extra construction time this weekend. It's time to make the big push to being campable by mid-Septmeber.

Don't be complainin about some dang screw hole in yo jaw! You got more important things to attend to than some silly mind bending excruciating pain!

But ahh.... Seriously, you are showing some true MOXY! I see it paying off though and you know what? The payoff is NICE!!!!

Hang tough my friend! I hear ya... You thought the heat was tough , do it with a hole in your head!!!

I look forward to hanging by a fire enjoying the COOOOOOL evening breeze in Sept! I want to see the Silver Beetle unveiled!!!

I like the stance of it! I really like they way teardrops look without the fenders for some reason, I guess it looks vintage. It will look great with the fenders on it too tho. Congrats! This is a major motivator! :applause:

To one Aggie from another,
I just finished reading your build from start to finish and it was great!

I am new to the forum, my vintage Kenskill was delivered today; so I have been trying to get me head around the build that I need to start -- your build had supplied valuable info -- made lots of notes for my build "instruction" book. We hope to make the gathering at Loyd Park in September, if so, I can't wait to see your great project. Thanks for the inspiration and information!
