Harbor Freight trailer question

Postby krang469 » Thu Jan 12, 2006 4:52 pm

I notice that a lot of people order the #1800 trailer from Harbor Freight. It is a little beyond my budget right now. Would the #1200 work too? :worship: What kind of mods would I have to make to it? My figure for the cabin weight is around 800lbs.

The 1800 is on sale right now for $299.00, but if that is not in your budget the "1200" will work just fine. I do recommend getting the 12 inch tires.

You can use it

Dear Krang,

Many members have used the lighter HF Trailer.

However, this month the heavier one is on sale for $100 less, plus there is a coupon for an additional 20%off. That bring the heavy model down to about $240.

Krang--1475 here too. (It comes with 12" wheels.)

The main modificiation ain't a biggy, and at the risk of repeating myself here with something I've posted elsewhere a bunch of times but am too tired to find right now...

Youtake two of the cross members and insert them where the SIDE CHANNELS meet instead. This is just a mattter of drilling a few holes, and creating a wood cross member for the center.

99% of us also move the axle back from its factory position (we do it 36" from rear, and again, a few more holes to drill.) )

Also, some of us, like me, mounted the axle BELOW the springs, which makes the TD taller. Most folks do it the other way, though, for a lower profile.

No real modifcation here--just a matter of where you position those axle u-bolts.
Here we go again!

Hoping to have it together enought go to Tearup 2006 at Fish Creek. :tipsy: AND yes I plan to take lots of pictures cause I know.... you guys love the pics!!! Thanks again.

I think the $100 off is a store-only sale.... The 20% off coupon seems to have disappeared, again..

Krang, I chose the 1800# trailer and I'm glad I did. My projected 750# weight is actaully closer to 1000# totally loaded. You'd be surprised how much extra weight is added when "camp ready". Have you ever seen the movie "The Long Long Trailer"??

Krang-

If you have a TSC (Tractor Supply Company) in your area check out their 4'x8' unplanked utility trailer!

Already assembled (welded)!

Comes with a TITLE!

Made in the good ole USA!

Price now around $251.00!

Len Daddona just bought a couple of them, particulars:

Coop, that's a great deal! But what about the axle position? Can you change it, or do you have to?

Ira-

Yep, The fact I like most is that "Made in the USA" glad to know we still have a few people left that know how to make things (other than hamburgers) LOL!

In looking at the frame it didn't look like the axle needed to move.

I know Len's on the tail end of his TSC/Benroy X 2 builds, maybe he'll see this and reply.

Cheers,

Coop
