Women building a trailer

Came across this photo, and thought to share it from Life magazine. She is building a trailer.

 Oh, good grief! She's got nails in her mouth and her hand is right next to the hammer! ...Nails to build a trailer that's going to be jostled down the road? I'm glad we've come a ways since then.

 And she is wearing white! Where are the blue jeans? I think Gage used a spiral nail on his hatch?

Great picture! People forget it was our Grandmothers who built the planes for WWII....

The small nails may be used to set the top/side skins in place, which is common for most canned ham trailers. I don't think brad nailers, or air staplers were invented then.

The corner molding or trim is where the screws would most likely be used.

@Sharon it looks like photo angle trickery. My guess is her hand is about 6 inches from the hammer. ;-)

Now if she only had one of those magnet wrist bands from Harbor Freight...

Right you are, Miriam! My grandmother on my mother's side welded on ships at the Alameda Naval Shipyard during WW2, and my great aunt on my father's side was a WASP.

More recently, my wife is a retired Sergeant First Class (22 years Army) and we met when we were both helicopter mechanics at Ft.Campbell, KY.

She was on recruiting duty in So Cal in 1994, and wore her Class A (Dress) uniform as a matter of course for the job. When one potential female recruit (about 17 years old) asked what her normal job in the army was, she told her she was a helicopter mechanic. The girl looked puzzled for a second, looked over my wife's uniform, then asked, "How do you do that without messing up your skirt...?"

Ahhhh, kids these days...

Well, if she hammered her finger, she wouldn't be the first just because she's female.
