Today's Top Tip - Fit a wall on the left side, otherwise everything will fall out on the road...

mikeschn wrote: Oh, and for the hatch... subtract out a block where the hatch is going to be, and then build a hatch!

Can't you be a bit more cunning? For example:
-copy the body off to one side
-create a block where the hatch will be
-copy the block off to one side
-subtract the block from the body to make the hatch cut-out
-use an intersection between the body copy and the block copy to make a hatch
-move or copy the hatch back to its position in the body

Make sense?

Andrew,

Sounds like you're a natural born solid modeler... just use separate layers instead of moving block and bodies off to the side, and it'll be perfect!!!

So can we expect some wrl files from you soon?

Brian,

I played with your file for a few minutes... I put a piece of glass on the left side so you wouldn't lose the contents of your trailer... per Andrew's suggestion...

I also stuck the weekender cabinets in there... They don't work well with the size and shape of your teardrop, but it gives you something to look at!

Go go ahead and give it a whirl (right Bev?)

Mike...

P.S. I made the door on the street side bigger too... it's now 30"x48".

Thanks Andrew.

I didn't put the street side wall on it to show off the Burl Maple interior!

I'll be reconstructing the doors later. Adding the tongue box, galley, environmental control unit (nope, not a commercial unit), keg, etc.

The basic TD is very easy to make and I wanted to get it posted in this thread to encourage others to give a whirl  too!

I just found out IronCAD doesn't have a boolean intersect command, which doesn't make sense, since it's part of the parasolid kernel. :?:

So I ended up taking a copy of the body with the block already subtracted for the hatch, and subtracting that from the copy of the body, to get the hatch. Whew! :? Make sense?

Yup, it pays to be able to think a bit laterally when manipulating solids.

No, but I appreciate you sending me the modified file. Haven't had a chance to do anymore CAD work. Hopefully I'll have a chance this weekend.
