Tex, you are simply an amazing writer. You truly have a gift. Thanks for sharing it with us. Although I grew up In L.A., your words paint a picture of rural life in Texas that I can clearly see in my minds eye.

The Buy

The Buy
by Jeanne Berry Hendricks on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at 7:43am
It was getting cloudy, and the sun was leaving sight, even though it was only 5 pm. The black truck pulled into the dirt parking lot of Sugg Oil in a little town in Arkansas. The blonde driving was a little concerned with the clouds but this errand should not take her long. Make the buy and get out. There is a black un-marked Sherriff's car pulled in forward across the muddy lot. A logging truck pulls into the lot also, but it is to park, the driver going to the hotel, with it's neon lights flashing, rooms with TV and Air Conditioning. As the blonde wonders where the guy is she's meeting had been, he was late or did he see that black car across the lot, waiting...waiting...waiting. A call comes in on the blue tooth connected navigation system in her truck, it was him, Eddie on the speaker..."you there?" The blonde says "yes waiting on you, I am parked along the block wall." About that time the Tornado sirens start to blare, there was after all something about those clouds. A tornado warning......were was the guy with her STUFF. The call had gone off when to sirens had started. All of a sudden the black car is gone, didn't see him leave, but she figures he left to search for the tornado. A beat up farm truck pulls into the lot, right along side her drivers side, she can't open her door.....the rain is starting. He says: "You know your getting a really good buy, these bags usually sell for a lot more..........She was quiet, hoping he didn't want more money, or did he have a gun in his lap??.....How the imagination can run away with you. She said "I only brought $50 bucks, that is what we agreed on, right?" He passed across through the open window one gallon bag at a time. Each bag contain the biggest Morell Mushrooms she had seen in ages. What a buy!

Where is the big dog? It’s time to play! Moby walked through the house, looking. This was odd, the big dog isn’t that hard to find. He’s too big to get under anything.

The big dog, Rommel, is ½ German shepherd and ½ short haired collie, and all fun! Moby is some sort of terrier, and of the three dogs that shared this place, only Rommel could handle playing with Moby.

At the moment, though, Rommel was no where to be found.

:applause: Nice work folks! Glad to see the stories flowing again. It was too quiet on here.

 I guess Tex is going to keep us in suspense a little longer...

Kinda makes the mind wander a bit... Did he run off with Miss Renee?... Is he building a teardrop for two?... Did he finally start that novel he's been mulling over?....

Whatever he's up to, I hope all is well and those creative juices will start flowing again soon.

Granny Tex used bitter Garrett snuff...packaged in the 8 ounce drinking glass. Those were the only drinking glasses in her house. I've still got an eight-piece set packed away somewhere.

She used a Maryland Club coffee can, and kept it so long most of the paint was worn off the outside from picking it up and setting it down.
