Can someone provide a route to get there that does not involve the ferry?

Trying to route a trip from Maine to the campground.

Try using Google Maps. It allows you to drag points of the calculated route, so you can get it avoid the ferry if you must.

Is it any ferry to want to avoid? There are 4 across Lake Champlain. One is short and free.

Latest forecast shows pretty perfect weather for this years TearUp!

A bit of cloud on Friday and then sun sun sun on Saturday and Sunday!

Temps in the 20C-23C range... that would be 68F-73F for you guys to the south.

Guess we might be foregoing the canopy city on site 241 this year! (well we hope).

Thank you for the information. I was not aware of the free ferry service. In looking at the ferry north of that it seemed that there would be a cost of like $15 one way for a truck plus the teardrop.
That $30 could get us down the road another 160 or so miles or to put it another way those funds would pay about 1/4 of the gas for the trip out and back!

Thank you again for the information and it looks like we are taking the free ferry and are likely to arrive at the campground around 7 pm if the trip across goes well. Hopefully we can locate a close site!

The Crown Point ferry is free since they had to blow up the old bridge there that wasn't safe.

There is a bridge between Rouses Point NY and Swanton VT via Allburgh VT along US highway 2. It's so far north that you can throw a rock and hit Quebec, but US 2 will get you all the way to Maine and it's a pretty ride.

Coming from Maine I'd recommend the Rouses Point bridge. Aside from being free it's also more direct. The lake is still well above flood levels because of all the rain this Spring - the Burlington crossing is closed, the Charlotte crossing was closed till recently - so the free chimney point crossing has been seein gmore traffic and sometimes longer wait times. I love the ferries and take them pretty much every chance I get but I'll be taking Rouses Point bridge this trip.

Just as you come off the bridge in to NY state look north toward Canada at the ruins for Fort Mongomery (aka Fort Blunder)!

It looks like route 2 up over the lake and down will be 7 hours 3 minutes as far as Google goes.
Of course travel with a 5/6 year old can modify that.
We should be on the road by 1130 Friday.

Anyone willing to pick up an extra bundle of wood that I can purchase or replace the next day? I do not want to get in at dark and then have to go find some wood............ Unless I might pass some on the way into the park...

A lot of time Google maps will route a few routes you just need to click or hover your mouse over the alternatives. Their calculated short trip will come up first. Myself coming from Maine I plan on going across to Lake George then up. It is not the most direct route, but I want to drive through Americade and gander at the bikes as I pass through. I went to Americade last year and it was a good time so I figured I would spectate a little in route.

When we stayed at Moreau State park in the fall they sold wood at the check-in, $7 for a burlap sack rings a bell. Pick you own pieces. Needless to say a maul is standard equipment in my trailer now as it was some large stuff. I assume all NY state parks would follow suit. And the sack held maybe three times what I have seen in standard "camp fire wood" bundle.

At Fish Creek there is an outside vendor that comes through selling wood out of a truck. I believe the little store outside the campground sells small bundles of wood. The best deal on wood is a little ways back towards the village of Tupper Lake where a couple sell wood at their house. Are you going to need wood that first night? Someone always has a campfire going, just join in at that. Bob

Ok I've made a few last minute changes to the participants list, and updated the Campers Guide as well for those who want to print it / listing of campers for reference once you get there (handy incase you forget who one of the other 117 people are)

Weather is still looking decent. Maybe a shower or too, and just slightly cool on the weekend. Off course that could all change in a few days.

Thats it for me. Time to pack up and head out tomorrow am.

Remember for those arriving Thursday (or before), to pop over Thursday night for a campfire on our site, site 241.

I haven't seen any replies from anyone regarding a preferred time for beer tasting so I decided to split the difference between 7 & 8 and say that we will start tasting at 7:30 on Friday night at site #231. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone!

For those of you leaving early have a safe drive. (the same goes for everyone else as well)

Bob/Mary - Where abouts in Tupper Lake is that person selling wood? Do you have any landmarks for what they are near that you can give me to look out for as I get closer? I might just stop on the way in and load up at that time.

We have stopped at that place for wood, but usually miss it, and I know there is a sign out along the road. He sells in various quantities, and as I recall they were real nice to deal with. I only remember that it's on the right coming out of the village of Tupper Lake, and is down off the road. I seem to recall that a previous year someone [I'll accuse Dave of it] had posted a map with the location on it. We'll just go sit at someone elses fire. Bob
