I got the fenders mounted for good last night. I hooked up the LED fender clearance lights this morning while it was still cool. I had my lovely wife Terry, stand by the "Silver Nugget" when I took this picture. I have the tail lights on in this shot also.

We went to the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino in Reno Thursday night to check out the old cars that were here for Hot August Nights. This is a week long car show that is held all over Reno & Sparks this time every August. We saw Herman's Hermits play there too. "Excellent Dude" !!!

We saw two of these "NEW" fiberglass teardrop like trailers that have a boat on top and a sleeping cabin inside. The galley is in the rear. The front of it comes to almost a point and it follows the contour of the boat. The green one was for sale for $9000. The guy was from somewhere in Washington state and he is a dealer for these.

Mel's Diner in downtown Reno. They wear 50's clothes and play Rock & Roll oldies and they are open all year long. This will take some of you back.
In the for-front is a '57 Chevy Drag Car with a 540 Big Block engine.

Image

I'm not shur if this is a '38, '39 or '40 Ford, but it was SWEET !!!

Image

Early 70's Dodge Challenger convertible. This picture does not do justice to the beautiful flawless red paint. I love these old MOPARS...

Image

This '57 Chevy convertible was premo !!!

Image

Tonight we are off to Victorian Square in downtown Sparks to check out more cars and to see Paul Revere & the Raiders. I will take some more car shots for you.

I will try to get the doors mounted tomorrow. I have to work for 5 hours during the middle of the day, noon to five. That will put a crimp in my style !!!

Take care all... :)

Johnny, that build is getting reaaaallll close to completion. It's looking real sweet. If I had 9 grand to spend, I'd buy your build instead of the trailer with the boat on top. (You probably wouldn't sell it anyway and I wouldn't blame you) IMO, your build is a classic. Great lines, great workmanship! You've done yourself proud! 8) 8) I haven't seen many TD's close enough to give it a good looking over, but yours is one I would go outta my way to see.

I am impressed :awesome: :ok:

Cliff: Thanks, It has been a battle, but I will just kept going until it is done.

Larry: I want top thank you for the kind words. We gad a great time this year at Hot August Nights. We seen a lot of really nice old cars and trucks. I cant believe they are building the boat camper nowadays. It gives people an option from the regular teardrop camper. I bet there is a market for them out there.

Dusty: I knew that was a Willys when I took the picture. When I posted the picture, I couldn't remember what it was. Thanks for clearing that up for everyone. I love the old Fords and the Willys of that era. They are beautiful cars.

Mel: You don't know how close it is to being finished. Thanks for the offer to buy it and your approval of my building skills, but "It Is Not For Sale"... I'm sure Terry and I will be answering a lot of questions about it once we get it on the road.

I like how it is turning out. :D

Update, 08-21-2011 "First Weekend Out"

Postby down under tech » Sun Aug 21, 2011 11:02 pm

Hey everyone: Terry and I spent our first week end camping in the "Silver Nugget". We went camping with a couple of friends of ours and their five year old boy. The TD did great and towed very well. We slept comfortably Friday and Saturday night. I forgot to bring along my camera. My friends Leroy and Dave helped me get the doors mounted Thursday night and I installed the latches and handles on Friday after work. We left here late in the evening, but it was a nice drive up to Stampede Dam where we camped. I still need to do more trim on the outside and make all of the cabinet doors. The main thing is it is campable and it works well as a camper.

Dave & Tom: Terry & I were really glad to take out our new toy for the world to see. Terry said as we were going down the freeway coming home, the other drivers were really checking it out. My friend Leroy took some video of us on the road. I will see if I can get it from him and post it for you to see it in action.

Debbie & Randy: Thank you guys... I now might get some sleep !!! LOL

Now we need to start our own "Desert Dry Drop-In" Teardrop Gathering every year here in Reno about this time of year.
I'm sure we can get a bunch of locals and some California teardroppers to join us.

Kirk: Thanks Captain... "Darn it Jim, I've given it all I got".

Now, I can take my time with the little details to finish it up.
