Figured I'd throw this note in here.

If you're using an autodarkening welding helmet, please invest the $100 or so in a good one, not the $30 homier special. I was using mine for an hour or so yesterday, and my eyes still hurt, best I can tell, the UV filter in the helmet is broken. I'll be finishing with my Fixed-shade helmet, as my new Jackson auto-dark won't be here this week.

Very sensible. Can't I tempt you to a little madness?

Madness is right! And too long for my chassis. But I do recall a guy over here who sold crankcases to put two sets of FJ jugs into a V-8, 400 horse configuration......

Julie and I aren't going to be able to meet this weekend, so I decided to hold off on the welding till tuesday, when the new helmet comes in. I've dissasembled it and put the peices in the garage until the rain stops.

I'm sure part of you are curious about the cost of this thing.

I'm assuming you'll be buying new, which most of you will be.

Materials used:
Flexiride Axle - $227.95 + tax, shipping (If I do another, I'll pickup a Dexter axle locally, cheaper, and with the right planning, you don't need the adjustable axle)
40' 2x2x1/8" Angle - $28.69 (inc tax)
10' 2x2x1/4" Angle - About $15 if you can buy a half stick, $30 if you have to buy a whole. I had 10' in the scrap pile for this project
1' 2x2x1/4" square tubing - I used a class 3 insert I had laying around, Easier and cheaper than having to buy a 20' stick.
Fulton straight tongue coupler - $12

Tires/wheels of your choice. Lets say $100 for the pair in most cases.

Add all that up and we're right around $400 before the welding and fitting.

This design has all straight cuts. You could use a hacksaw if you were determined enough. My total welding/cutting/fitting came to 3 hours.

This is how I hold a corner square.

Almost forgot, Completed trailer weighs 230 lbs.

Interesting day today.

Lost the trailer lights and plate(!) somewhere between Gainesville and Dallas.

Everything was tightened down, So I'm not sure what happened there. Ah well, now to find my registration papers...
