Lanterns, stoves, etc... anything old!

Postby logman7777 » Tue Jan 17, 2012 6:31 pm

Man wish I could go :(

I have 8 white gas Colemans, 4 Propane Colemans, and about a dozen Dietz oil lamps.

Someday when I have money AND some time off

Never seem to get the 2 of those things together

If I can get my 3 white gas lanterns working I'll bring those...at least 2 propane lanterns...and 2 LED lanterns. Have other battery Coleman lanterns that will be making the trip as well, just because they pack well and will be used inside the Grasshopper.

Maybe I'll get lucky and get some more white gas Colemans before then...maybe a 'turd'????

I will bring at least 5, all white gas, all pre-1950. Maybe more, all depends upon what crops up between now and then...

Stoves aren't gonna count towards anything. Lanterns only. Doug

 ... what's the world record for number of white gas stoves burning at once? You could probably take that one all by yourself, Doug ...   ...!

And, what the hey ... they only take up a little more room, and ... well ... it could be another WORLD RECORD to be set at the IRG ... :applause: ...! Probably would want to do it on another night though, maybe ...

I was thinking more along the lines of Jerry Lee Lewis "Great Balls of Fire"

So far, and Dave A hasn't said anything yet, we have 47-52 total, includes propanes and battery powered. I know that Kevin Dave and Scott will certainly add to the numbers. Doug

Table lamps??? Well, can I bring my floor lamp, as long as I bring a long enough extension cord?? Haven't had it out camping since the Glyphs a few years back!!

Sue, take your full length mirror. Now that might be something to see set up behind the lanterns.

I wished I could go but that is the money time of the year for me. Unless I get fired, then will really be to broke.

For the count:

2 gas
2 propane
2 battery

May have more gas lanterns later. I'll have to raid my dad's garage!

I'm going to make this a sticky till after the IRG...

Lee and I were talking about building some sort of crude display rack....so it's really important that everyone let us know what they are going to bring. We can't build, if we don't know what kind of numbers to expect....help us out on this, please! A rack or shelf system, even crude, beats a whole bunch of lanterns sitting on the ground....It's all about "plate presentation"....hey....even Denny's puts parsley on the plate! Doug

If you were looking for suggestions for crude racks, I took these photos with KISS in mind.

Perhaps a simple diagram with dimensions, and a few volunteers to make the same rack design out of scrap wood. The base has a couple hinges so that it could be folded out. It all breaks down easily.

Count on me for one gas lantern. If I'm able to borrow a few more, I will let you know.

How about making a circle of lanterns instead of a line of lanterns? :D Danny

Last year I participated in a record breaking light up of glow sticks in the shape of a hot air balloon. How about a light up of lanterns in the shape of a teardrop. It would have to be under a good vantage point to take a photo.

On second thought... Circle, teardrop, or any shape may produce a photo challenge to see the lighted globes vs. the top hat of the lanterns. Food for thought.

Any shapes are going to be tough to organize and get photos of. Circles are going to take up more space. I think we'll be doing good just to get them all lit and in a line....
