What's the best way to run the pipe under the trailer? I saw someone on an Airstream forum who said they just tack welded the black iron pipe to the frame, wouldn't that compromise the pipe?

It would depened on the skill of the welder.

I have welded gas pipe before, BUT it was 6" in diameter and XXX strength, (XXX is aproxamatily 3/8" thick walled).
Very high pressure, and X-ray tested before use.

On a TD or TTT I can not recomend it's usage as the vibration would shorten the life expentcentcy of said pipeline.

Just my $0.02 cents worth from past experiences, YMMV !

Stay safe, and have fun !!!

I am removing the 1/2" black Iron pipe and replacing it with 3/8 copper and will drill holes through the frame using grommets or sleeves to separate the copper from the aluminum frame. Currently the black iron is hung with stainless steel insulated straps and where it passes under the axle is the lowest point just waiting for a rock.

Banded straps work great, just wrap in rubber to insulate
If it ain't broke, fix it till it is
