My first solo trip!

Postby gmajane » Wed Mar 28, 2012 10:12 pm

I am on Day three of my first solo trip, but I have only spent one night alone, having stayed at a cousin's last night and tonight. My first night out went well. I was able to pull into the site in such a way that I did not need to unhook the tear. The bathrooms were a LONG way away, though, and the dog and I had to get up at 3am! I will try to take pix since the next two nights I will be at COE campgrounds. I am not sure what I did with my pepper spray, but I guess I will find it tomorrow before it gets dark. :)

Second night actually camping.... When I was setting up some RV'ers invited me over for a glass of wine. I went over for a few minutes even though I don't drink. They were just curious about my little tear and were nice people. I had my first glitch today. The trailer light connector came disconnected and got ruined, so I had to have a new one put on. I was at a small town and bought the part at a NAPA place, There was a NAPA repair shop close by and they fixed it for $5! :D

No pix yet. I have to figure out how to post them first.

You're having quite an adventure! I'm with Verna....find your bear spray. Oh, do you have a Go-Girl and/or a large mouth mayonaise jar?

:applause: :applause: :applause: Happy to hear you are out there making fun! The one thing teardrops do is attract attention...A good thing because people will look out for you....not so good because you are noticeable! I am thinking I will get one of those small boat horns too..

You can use the panic button from your tow vehicle's key, if you have that feature. Something that startles people and makes them look, especially in a campground, is yelling FIRE! Also, some flashlights have built-in alarms. Probably the best thing to do, though, is to visit the restroom before you go to bed and plan ahead with ways to keep from leaving the safety of your cabin until daylight.

I've thought, for peeping Tom problems, to place a few set mouse traps under the windows, with some leaves over them. That might end up being fun! Of course, that's provided the window isn't part of the door...wouldn't want to give yourself a rude awakening. (Oh, I'm in a rare mood tonight....TeeHee!) That method would probably work with four legged animals, too. (When a person wants to train a pet to stay off the couch, They sometimes set mouse traps on the cushions with newspaper over top keep the pet from being hurt but the 'snap' sound scares them away from the item.)

The el-cheapo window and door alarms (magnetic) would work too if anyone tries to get in when you're there. I also got my wife an extending flexible billy club from karatedepot.com for $10+shipping. It fits in a flashlight holster and is an excellent companion to the spray. Just a flick of your wrist and you mean business!

First adventure is the hardest. Now you know how it's done, it'll be easier.

Be cautious, not afraid.

I camp with VW groups. I always get other women who ask if I'm afraid to camp alone. I can't help but wonder who I should be afraid of. Their husband?
