Hey Slow, as long as you can drop the feet through the oven or stove racks it will work. I have cooked on my propane stove many times. Anything you can do in a frying pan can be done on the stove in a Dutch Oven. In the oven they work the same as any cast iron would. Keep practicing, if you learn to master the DO you will catch a girl for sure.

what about the white gas stoves? This works for anything that doesn't need top heat. Keep your flame low and don't try to rush it. It works on propane too.

I don't know if I'm a "guru" or not, but I have learned that even mistakes are rarely inedible. As long as it won't harm the oven (temperature shock, impact, extreme heat) don't be afraid to try it. I've even baked bread with charcoal on top and propane on the bottom (gives infinite control for that perfect bottom crust.) BTW ... I'm still experimenting.

If you are using a camp oven (one with legs), it is easier to use if you place it on a cookie sheet or jellyroll pan before putting it in the oven. That way, you aren't battling with the legs & the oven rack.

If you are using a regular Dutch oven (no legs), it was intended for regular stove/oven use, so no problems.

Works the same... 350º with charcoal or in a regular oven is still 350º.

DO can be used on stove top or in over, great for soups, stews and any other cooking/heat applications....

Want to upgrade from DO cooking try 'Pressure Cooker" applications (stove top only) ....

I made ice cream in mine for the cast iron cooking seminar I gave at the Crossroads of America gathering.

No stove top or oven needed ! :D

I've used mine many times for baked beans cooked in doors.

It also worked great for chili when the 'other' big pot couldn't be found.

What the hell is a grue?
Still graced with two eyes and ten fingers (due in no small part to luck!).

Just when you think a problem is solved, an uglier result replaces it.

I use my camp DO many times on the kitchen gas stove to make magic beans, use the burners for browning hamburger and bacon, then use the oven for the rest. I do wonder if I am using to high of a flame on the stove top though as the seasoning has burned off of the center of the DO. I have also heated up the DO on a porcelain top stove(the ones that have to have contact to work) and it worked to heat up beans.
If I could shut my brain off, I could save myself alot of time, money and effort.

Hey, it's like Woodbutcher says, if you can drop the feet through the stove or oven racks, then you're a Grues.

http://www.dutchovendave.com/recipes/dutch_oven_ice_cream.pdf

I had a big bell shaped bean pot and used a large glass jar to contain my ice cream mix and placed the ice in the pot. Be sure and wash the cast iron right away as the salt loves cast iron.
