Unless we can get more portable facilities, we will be limited to 15 trailers or 30 people.

So far we only have 8 trailers for sure coming. PLENTY of room for more! :D

NOTE: The official TWAIN AND TEARS THREAD is over on Tearjearkers at http://www.tearjerkers.net/new_forum/viewtopic.php?f=58&t=6039&p=68267#p68267 Leave a message on this posting if you plan to join us!.

To better maintain people's privacy, the list of who are coming will be maintained over on the more private tearjearkers site!. However, you can pm or post here if you prefer.

Twain and Tears. June 8th weekend. Announcing our 2nd annual gathering in Unionville, northern Nevada. The gathering will be at a small park on the grounds of a shack where Mark Twain lived while prospecting in the boomtown of Unionville. Unionville is a tiny hamlet boasting @ 20 full time residents in Buena Vista Canyon, about 20 miles off I-80 between Lovelock and Winnemucca. It is about 150 miles from Reno. We will camp in a county park mid-village called "Moeha Walker Memorial Park."

picture of park: http://www.flickr.com/photos/nevada_magazine/5658861943/

The park is free, with water and porta-potty. No electricity or showers. Camping will be group informal and family style, this is not a campground but a park which we have permission to use. The canyon is about 500 ft higher in elevation than Lovelock, so a bit cooler, should be great in September. And it is quiet, quiet, quiet. One road in and out. No cell phone coverage, although there are land lines so emergency service is available at a local home or the inn. Park will hold maybe 15-20 trailers maximum. Unless we can get another porta potti up the hill!

What to do?
Talk, relax, play games, cook, eat. We will do a traditional Saturday Potluck, but otherwise this is a total relax program!
Watch birds and wildlife (bald and golden eagles often seen)
    Hike several trails
Explore ruins of housing and mines (not in the mines, but the tailings, equip, ec)
Rock hound or look for ammonites at nearby "Fossil Hill"
Take a tour of nearby Safe Haven, a rescue zoo.
    Star gaze
    Sleep

If you don't want to camp, but want to join us, there is my favorite bed & breakfast in the world here, Old Pioneer Gardern. http://www.virtualcities.com/ons/nv/c/nvc41011.htm

Directions: To get to Unionville, take the Mill City/Unionville exit off Interstate 80 onto Nevada State Highway 400. Drive about 17 miles on paved road, then look for the Unionville sign on your right as the highway turns into a well-graded gravel road. The village is located about three miles up the road into the canyon. Keep going until you spot the park on the right. There is only one road in and out of the village.

Hope to see you?! :applause:

Sounds great, we'll be there.

Maybe I should pick up an extra spare tire....

Hey, Debbie and Randy, you can put us down as definite "maybes". I've shown my wife the pics from this years gathering and she seems pretty interested but right now Jan is in the middle of her masters program and work has been pretty stressful, so I think it depends on how she is doing during that time of year. It's close enough for me to consider going solo though... If you could, drop me a line as you're getting close to full and I'll give you a definite answer.

Thanks
Mel

Hello Debbie: You mentioned there will be two TD Gatherings in Northern NV. Where is the second one going to be at? We will sure to go to that one too if we had info on it. Can you tell us about it? We want to have as much fun at both of them as possible because we enjoyed ourselves at the first Twain & Tears Gathering you sponsored this year. ;)

Postby traveler » Sun Dec 23, 2012 11:13 pm

:D I might not be there with my tear, but am going to DO MUCH traveling this next summer and will really :worship: try to be there on June 8th. missed the last one, so have no excuse, so far, not to be there. Got to get back seeing some of the really nice teardropers that I have met over the past 7 + years.

Re: Twain and Tears 2013-thinking about a date change!

Postby lee senn » Mon Dec 24, 2012 6:24 pm

Lee and Norma Count us in ! We came to last years gathering, minus a teardrop. We stayed at the bed and breakfast in Unionville and heartily second Debbie and Randy's recommendation if you are coming without a teardrop. We got a lot of good ideas for our upcoming build and were met with a warm and friendly welcome. We probably drove some of the group crazy with endless questions but I now feel that I can make a start on our tear. We hope to have it complete by the time of the gathering but could end up camping in a tent on the floor of our partially complete tear. In any case we will be there. I really think I can get the tear at least complete enough to be campable. We are now retired ( finally yea !!! ) so the date is not crucial to us. Lee and Norma

June 14th? That is almost out of the possible for a snow camp. But I will try it anyway. I will stock up on Jarritos for the kids.

I just talked to my sister and she might be interested in coming with a tent. Or barrow a pop up and some grandkids from her son living in Winnemucca. If that be ok.
