Lightup request for a wounded WWII Vet.

Postby Wolffarmer » Sat Jan 19, 2013 11:40 pm

Hi, my dad is in the hospital in Boise ID right now and not doing to well. Stage 4 COPD. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. His lungs have just about given out on him. Who know how much longer. In WWII he enlisted in the army and was assigned to the 1st Cavalry division and sent to the Pacific Theater. He was in the Campaign for the Admiralty Islands, Then Leyte Island where he was in the defense perimeter when MacArthur gave his "I have returned" speech. Later on Luzon Island his unit was picked by Mac to essentially drive through the Japanese lines and liberate the Santo Thomas University Civilian Internment Camp. He was there when the gates was blown opened. Some weeks later he was wounded in action and had to be evacuated to the states. We do not know how much longer he has but he is making arraignments for his funeral.

So if I may I would like to request a light up of Mil Specs. Lanterns or stoves. Light them if you got them. If you don't got them, light what you have.

That is my 1958 252 Coleman burning.

Thanks friends,

Randy

Sorry to hear that your father is not doing well and we all thank him for his service.

Coincidentally, my father in law was in diesel subs during WWII, including sneaking in and spying on the Japanese ships when they were holed up in Leyte Gulf.

Although not a mil spec, I will certainly burn my lantern for you in your father's honor.

Randy we lit up a couple of my lanterns for him and said a few prayers when we had our light up fire in our new fire pit I built. We will continue to say a few prayers for him bud.

I got my 530 GI Pocket stove out and cooked up a bit of supper by the light of the 252. Stove is not a true Mil Spec but when I found it in Nov 2011 my dad remembered those things from the war.

Sending up a prayer. I don't have a milspec but I light this one for all patriotic events and i can't think of anything more patriotic thing than fighting for our country.

Thanks jeporter.

That's a Star Spangles lantern for sure. Dad is still hanging in there. He is a tough old bird. When he was wounded it nearly killed him but he picked up a buddy and ran 1/4 mile to the aid station.

I am going to Boise tomorrow to see him. I skipped today. Let him rest
