Accepted delivery today

My oldest sister graciously stopped by South Pittsburg, TN on her way back from Florida to pick this up for her little brother.

The lid lifter was a surprise. She also had to have one of the enameled dutch ovens for her kitchen.
What to cook first?

Congratulations :). You'll love it! It will also introduce you to the obsession cast iron can become.

Make sure you season int well. I am a huge advocate of using beeswax instead of oil. It smells great while seasoning, does not add are to food, and makes such a slick surface you'll never want to use Teflon again...

This morning I fried eggs on my griddle...I forgot the butter. They still tasted fine, and didn't stick...no broken yolks.

Just like any other seasoning l just use the wax instead. I built up a layer by repeatedly adding wax over several weeks. Now my skillet only needs a little oil to keep it from rusting. I'd rather cook in cast iron than any of the more expensive and less effective "modern" cookware.
