New Contest: Most efficient Galley...We Have a Winner!

Postby bledsoe3 » Mon Mar 12, 2007 6:54 am

What we're looking for is the most efficient use of the limited galley space available in a teardrop. And pictures. If you are not done with your galley or still in the planning stage you can post a drawing. This contest will run until April 8th. The judging will begin on the 9th. At that time this thread will changed to a poll and the members will decide the winner. The poll will be locked on April 15th and galley with the most votes wins.
The prize is a Kamp Kadi. It can be clamped to the floor of your tear or it comes with a spike that be driven into the ground depending on your design. It will hold a garbage bag, paper towel roll, utensils and comes with a condiment tray. And with a little ingenuity it could be used to help prop your hatch up.

Great idea! I'm currently planning the remodel of my SVC 2000, and I have VERY limited space. Personally, I'd love to see pics of galleys that are completely stocked and ready to rock. Efficient use of space is the phrase for me. Innovative use of storage containers and your pack rat mentality is exactly what I need. I obviously will not be a contestant, HOWEVER, I will definately be casting a vote. Let your doors and drawers hang! Best of luck to everyone, and thank you in advance for the pics!

Nice prize  . Ive seen some pretty elaborate looking galleys on this forum. It will be interesting to see how efficient the winner did their galley along with those who enter. :D Danny

Just for show. Please do not judge or vote.

The two top drows on the left are 18" deep and above it is my master fuse box and elec plugs for both shore and gen use. Also TV antenna outket. Under the chop block is my sink. Facet has two handles, one for on board water (elec pump) and the other for shore supply (not hooked up yet). Trash fits behind in hole behind facets.

Ahhhh...the search for the ultimate galley. As you can see I have had several different designs. I am really pretty happy with the last one.

The original slider galley...

Bob, it was your slide out that sent me the direction that I went with mine. Saw it at Sweetwater a few years back. Thanks for the idea.

Never enter contests, but what the heck. It's only a 4 foot galley and I wouldn't consider it "ultimate" but there's alot there, and it meets my needs just fine.
Has
110v outlet
12v outlet
Custom adjustable table stows across counter top. Has little rubber bumpers to prevent scratches. :o
Full height cabinets hold full size cereal boxes, fire extinguisher, pots and pans, etc (sorry no pics of stocked cabinets)
Paper towel holder
Overhead 110v light
Frying pan on a hook
Under counter storage slot for Coleman with space underneath for 2.5 gallon water jug (that's all I ever need on my solo trips), propane, etc.
RV battery w/charger
Lower storage tailgate opens with or without table installed. I've found it the perfect height for eating...pull up a lawn chair and chow down. Beats picnic tables with spider/wasp nests underneath.
Struts are hinged and clip to underside of hatch. Ya wouldn't think the hatch would close properly with paper towel roll, fry pan, table, and struts, but it does. Packaged quite nicely if I do say so myself. ;)

FWIW, there's 6ft4inches of sleeping space inside. Back lower storage was made to accommodate a big cooler but ended up putting a shelf there for the Coleman because I prefer the cooler in the car for fast access to sodas enroute.

There's only so much you can do in a 4x8 foot square...thus the beauty of efficiently packaged teardrops. 8)

Still under construction but getting close.

Other things to note, Speakers above the cabinets, and a microwave.
Image
The sides open up so that a cooler can be slid in under the right side and lots of room for Iron under the left.

Wow, those are great. This should help those who are still building or planning get some good ideas. I love the pictures all most as much as Jack, Paul and Miriam so keep the entries coming. Every entry will get a spot to vote for at the end and like any poll each member will get a single vote to cast.

Gage, at your request I'll leave you out if you insist.

Hey Gage is cheating! His galley is just so HUGE!
Needless to say, his is one of my favorites for a wide tear.

Here's our galley in action...

And of course with the popular optional Adirondack Galley extension...

PS. Remember. In any good galley design you have to incorporate the right 'chockie' to make it your own. Not sure how to spell that.. best to ask Rick and Diane

coldbeer wrote:So with all these nice galleys filled with delicious food, do you ever have a problem at night with raccoons or bears?

In the northern parts there are always stories about the camper who had food in his tent and woke up in the middle of the night to a nosy bear. Just wondering if this would be an issue with teardrop kitchens.

Don't be ridiculous! They hardly ever come around.. much...

Image

This explains why we re-designed our galley

Actually we never carry food in the galley... although the campstove might smell a bit yummy to a bear...

Gage...Imitation is the highest from of flattery...LOL.

I think even you will agree that there are some incredible ideas and great workmanship with this bunch. I am always in awe of the new ideas I see on this board.

Sorry I can't be at the SCTT spring gathering. Say hi to our honeymoon companions, Larry and Diane (if they make the long trip, ha ha) and Matt and Colleen. Give Abby a kiss and have fun.

PS. I'll vote for your galley anyway!
