THE WIDGET

This design started out as a winter version of the Midget (hence ‘Widget’), but got modified to put the galley inside, became a bit longer and ended up as a different design.  Its main features are:

• Two berths run fore-and-aft and a table makes them into a (compact) dinette.  The berths can be used as singles, with a locker between them, or the locker can be stowed on the floor and the berths joined to make a spacious double.
• A small galley runs across the front of the trailer, consisting of a stove and a recess for a cooler.  A dropped footwell at the front provides 5’ 6” of headroom in front of the galley.
• A portable toilet can be stowed next to the galley.
• The body length has grown from the 9ft of the Midget to 10ft, but even so the berths are less than 75” long.  The shape of the profile has been given tighter curves to increase the space at the front of the trailer (the Midget is much more egg-shaped).

A detailed weight estimate gives an unladen weight of 1450lb.

2-D Design

The design is in several layers of a single drawing file.  Alternatively the design can be viewed as several pdf files.  One file shows drawings to test the possibility of adapting a Harbor Freight utility trailer as the trailer chassis.
