6x12 ice fishing toy hauler

This past winter I built out an all aluminum Legend 6x12x7 single axle cargo trailer into an ice fishing shanty and toy hauler/camper. The trailer is fully insulated and includes a PD4045 power converter, 110v/12v system 5 fishing holes, propane hydro flame direct vent furnace, burnt pine trim, vinyl floors and led lighting.

I spent 7 nights in it this winter in temps varying from 30 to -40 degrees and the trailer performed beautifully. I have enough room to haul my snowmobile and portable shanty. It fits two cots when setup in sleep mode. Enjoy the pics.

Thanks! Yeah the commercially built fish houses are crazy nice these days, but the price tags reflect it! I'm really happy with how well my trailer turned out. I originally was going to build out a nice couch that folds down to a bed. After thinking about it, the permanent couch was going to take up more space than I was comfortable with. In it's current configuration, I can still use the trailer as a cargo trailer, toy hauler, dry storage. I salvaged the forced air propane heater from a popup camper that I'm using as the base for my teardrop build. It easily kept the trailer at 68F at night with the outside temps dipping down to -30F.

Returned from my second ice fishing trip two weeks ago with the trailer. Spent four nights on the ice this year. No major issues and slept comfortably with the heat set to 68 degrees. Outside temps dipped down to -20 one evening. I used a Power Blanket this year to keep the propane tank warm. This kept the propane from freezing and allowed us to use more propane in the tank on cold days. I built a storage cabinet at the front of the trailer prior to this trip. It was a great help on keeping the trailer organized. I also added a camp table which was perfect for two people. Overall the fishing was pretty great. My last fish of the trip was my personal best Crappie at just under 14”.

Love it! I've seen those out on lakes when I've been up north in the winter. If I lived there, definitely would build one. Camping and fishing inside the trailer.. need a houseboat for that here!

Thanks! It was well worth the time and money to build it considering the manufacturer built shacks like the green one in my last picture cost 4-5X what it cost me to build my trailer. For that price difference, I'll gladly take the extra 30 minutes to bank the snow up around the trailer every time I use it.

I've been working on some changes in my cargo trailer fish house. The last two years, I've been using cots when sleeping overnight. This year I decided to use e-track to build bunks at the back of the trailer. I can store them up high out of the way when fishing or storing my snowmobile. I still need to burn in the grain on the support 2x4's and fit the mattresses I also added a dedicated tv for an underwater camera and upgraded the regular tv to a larger screen size. I'll post more pics as I finish up the bunks and the mattresses.

I’ve got the trailer bunks pretty well wrapped up. Just got back from a snowmobiling trip. I hauled my sled and spent two nights in the trailer while I was up north. It saved me $300+ in a hotel room. The bunks worked great so far. Plenty comfy. My wife and I are considering camping over the long weekend. I’ll get a few more pics if we do. I ended up ordering custom mattress covers for the bunks. It was only an extra $20 per mattress for a custom logo so I thought what the heck why not. I designed a logo and I’m super happy with how they turned out. It’s a nice custom touch.

Thanks! I love how versatile the trailer has been. I use it to haul my snowmobile, camp, ice fish and just as general storage throughout the summer.

Got both my bunk mattress covers installed and just got back from 3 days camping at a local state park. Trailer worked great and the wife said the bunks were comfy, I'll consider that a success.
