Alaska Road System

I was in Alaska in July of last year . Flew into a lake called lake chaltna , I think thats how you spell it . Than went down a river named lake creek on a float boat for 6 days . Alaska is gods contry for sure . Kerry

  • :shake hands: Welcome Kerry,
  • You might have me stumped on that one. There's 11 Lake Creeks! Could it have been the one that flows into Chelatna Lake? East of the Alaska Range and just South of Denali Park.
  • When you get your TD done, come on by.

Fred , yes it was the chelatna . We ended the trip at the Yatna river . It was south of the part and east of the range. Don't think I'm spelling the rivers name right . Either way , you live in the best state in the nation ! Great fly fish'n . Will go back ! KD

I HAVE BEEN THERE FOUR TIMES AND AM AWED BY THE BEAUTY EVERY WHERE YOU TURN. TOOK MY DIESEL AND 5TH WHEEL THERE AND THE ONLY PLACE WHERE I HAD ANY TROUBLE IS WHEN THEY FIRST STARTED TO FIX THE ROAD AROUND DESTRUCTION BAY. HAVE BEEN ALL OVER THE WESTERN PART OF THE MAIN LAND AND DOWN TO JUNEAU, SITKA, AND WOULD LOVE TO JUST TAKE A YEAR AND GO TO THE (SPELLING) ALUTIONS??? AND UNALASKA JUST WATCH THE BEARS, AT A DISTANCE OF COURSE.
IF YOU GUYS UP THERE EVER HAVE A GATHERING, I WILL NOT HESITATE TO PACK UP THE JEEP AND THE TEAR AND HEAD YOUR WAY, GAS PRICES OR NOT.

I just wanted to add for anyone traveling from Wasilla to Talkeetna or Denali who want a little adventure and a beautiful drive (extra beautiful, I guess, this is Alaska) should take Hatcher Pass. Not a good idea for a motorhome but some do take them up over the pass.

If you want be "safer" you can take the paved side from Wasilla to Independence Mine and come back down that way to Wasilla again

I definitely plan to travel up the highway next year, got a daughter who lives in the Talkeetna area. I rode the highway in 1949, was three years old so I don't remember much. :) Except for one trip outside in '56 I stayed there until I joined the navy in '66.

Now it's been 54 years since I've been on the AlCan but I have to think it's in better shape now. Guess the proof will be dragging the Little Guy up there. 8) 8) 8)
