So, there I was in my outdoor work area, grinding away on a bracket piece in the vise not paying particular attention to where the sparks were going and the next thing I knew the dry grass was ablaze! I tried stomping and kicking it back onto the concrete, but it was moving quickly. With visions of fire bombers and my neighborhood ablaze, I ran an grabbed the hose and turned it on and sped to douse it. I was lucky that while didn't reach the whole way, I was able to get ot out quickly. I am happy to say that I did not become a statistic, and face public scrutiny! (Needless to say I have reoriented the vise and keeping a hose much closer)

Scary moment! Glad it worked out, that's one of my worst nightmares is to catch the forest on fire up at our cabin. Very remote, heavily treed.

grinding cutting & welding are all ban'd outdoors when we are in a fire ban

and don't forget the dry grass when parking your vehicles

SO GLAD it didn't get away from you

Glad you got it. I've managed to set my own shirt on fire grinding before, which is also exciting.
