A member with extensive experience building various rigs suggests adding a dedicated truck camper section, noting that while Facebook groups for homemade truck campers are active, they lack the organization and permanence of a forum. Another member agrees, while a moderator recommends the Wander the West forum, which already caters to truck camper enthusiasts and offers robust discussions on systems and travel. Others point out that the differences between truck campers and trailers are...

Greetings. One of my favorite sites has been tnttt. I've built a lot of different trailers and rigs in my life, but my last one has been a truck camper. The most active Facebook group is pretty popular (homemade truck camper projects), but Facebook groups are pretty lousy compared to a real forum. I'd love to drop my latest build photos into tnttt, but I have not seen much for Truck Camper projects, so I did not want to intrude with it. I think a Truck camper forum would be excellent! Thanks ! Keep up the great work !

I am part of the Wander the West Site team, and I think WTW might be a better forum for home built truck campers. WTW is another RV Life forum that predominantly attracts popup and hard side campers, with a focus on travel. There is a significant amount of systems discussion that most members find helpful, and I find it a great place to hang out on the web.

If you want, send me a PM, and we can discuss the forum culture and expertise.

IMO there is not much different from a trailer other than it not being on a trailer frame. I have seen folks build a truck bed facsimile on a trailer to put a "bed cap" on and that is their camper trailer exterior. I've even seen folks mount a full on finished bed camper on a flatbed trailer. There is much caryover between and any differences are pretty minimal. There is much we can learn from each other even if not building exactly the same thing (usually that is where the learning comes from anyway). If anyone wants to get snobby about it I'd just ignore them. It is one thread.. Not like you will be realy steering the forum away from it's main identity in any meaningful way. Some may say the cargo conversions have done that alot more already.

Mine is a trailer but very much non traditional in so many ways. Your bed camper may end up with more in common to teardrops than my trailer. ;)

I figure you can post it in "Non-traditional Designs" or even just the "Build Journals" section.

I think I will load my truck camper project over in that section like you said. When people see what I did, I think they certainly can adapt similar ideas to a trailer build. If the admins do not like it, they can remove it. There is a pretty active group of people building truck campers, but no decent forum. Anything they post gets lost really quickly over in the FB groups.
