Cracked do rats!

Whenever I've looked at cast iron that's cracked on me, I always find bubbles in the cast... Though I guess if it hasn't split in half you can't see.

I'd keep hold of the lid though, I see cast pots without lids fairly often. Might be a couple of years until you get the right one to marry it to though.

You could look on Ebay for a DO missing the lid, if you know who makes yours. But don't get rid of the lid.
 
Heck many of my skillets get pressed into service as shallow dutch ovens. I tell my skillets if the lid fits wear it !

My bean pot is ancient and has no lid but a 10" lodge lid works fine

My old spider skillet has no lid but guess what the same 10" lid works well with it also.

I never pass up any lid ,camp style, or domed !


OH put an old gas stove grate under the skillet for use over coals.

Well, ya. Too many of those would make anyone's butt heavy [emoji16]
