Door handles - need suggestions

Hey folks! I "finished" my build a few weeks ago and took the camper out for its first test run. Everything went great, I'm super happy with the way things have turned out.

That being said, I need a new door handle solution. I am currently using basic shed door handles and the wood that it's sliding against to squeeze the door shut is already marring. I thought about putting a thin sheet of metal there for stability, but then I think the handle would slide off over time with the pressure. You can't tell by the photo, but the wood piece that the handle is sliding on is angled from the doorjam

Here are some pictures to show what I mean, if you can think of another door handle solution that wouldn't require me to put a bunch more holes in my doors, that would be ideal! There are no bad recommendations :)

Thanks so much!

Maybe replace the plywood block with a piece of UHMW plastic? Nice and slippery and would show wear less.

The marks look like paint coming off your handle. Maybe just sand the paint off that area of the handle.

I will look into UHMW Plastic! I hadn't heard of that before.

Yes the paint is coming off the inside of the handle, but it's also cutting into the plywood, which I'd like to avoid :)

I appreciate the suggestion!
