Emergency Shelter Build

It took a bit longer to get it built, but it's done & delivered to my BIL. To say he was surprised would be an understatement. Here is a link to the video I did of the finished product. It was not meant to be a utilitarian sleeper with a couple of perks, not a conversion like I would do for myself. It will keep him warm, dry & secure.

Well thought out and executed build. I think you accomplished your objective with style and compassion. Nice work! Your BIL is a lucky man.  :applause: :applause:

Cindy - Thank you. I'd like to build more of these for folks that are disenfranchised, but I need to figure out how to finance them. It was different working on a small trailer vs something 6 ft+ tall.

Wow, that was fast. [emoji106]
Those shed/playhouse windows sure are getting popular. [emoji6]
Almost too nice inside.

I salute you Sir. What you have done here is inspirational. I know I have learned something today. Thanks for sharing with us.

jwh92020, Howdy;

Pure-n-simple, can't get much more basic then that. Well ya could but ...
Basic creature comforts go a long way. Congratulations well done!

Thank you all for the kind words. He's been sleeping in it since Thursday and his leg swelling has gone down quite a bit. Hopefully he wakes up & realizes it's time to change what he's been doing isn't working and the trailer is a tool to build from

Would love to hear an update to this build story!

If I ever have the need to assist someone like this I would enjoy doing it.

Great job JWH!!

Thank you. The update is that he hit 62, tok his Social Security early to have some income. My sister in law worked the phone and found him a rent subsidized apartment and on Medicaid (we'll see how long that lasts). The trailer is pretty beat up. The solar system quit a few years ago and he wouldn't spend $20 on a cheap charge controller (asked me to send him one - didn't happen), a fender fell off after it got dragged across a lumber stack. It's full of his crap at a storage lot. What the heck, he didn't pay for anything. He actually called me a couple of months ago and asked if I would fix it up so he could sell it. I don't think that conversation went they way he hoped it would. My final response was that if I came and got it, it would be to put it back together so I can sell it and we all can recover some of the $ we put out. I'm guessing this update wasn't what you were expecting, was it? Thanks for lokking at the thread.

Sorry, I was just thinking about the part when he asked if you could fix it up so he could sell it LOLOL

Jwh92020 you seem like such a nice guy,

Do you think you can send me $500 so I can go to the casino? LOL. Sorry about that, I wish I had a brother-in-law like you, not to take advantage of, it just seems like you're a good brother-in-law.

I really wish you the best.

Sure. Put $50 on green on the roulette wheel for me. Seriously, some people's children.. You know hat I mean?

Jwh

If it were me, and it was still worth it, I would tell him that I'm coming to get it to fix it up,(let him think what he wants) and sell it for yourself to recoup something. If he has an apartment, he doesn't need it because he cannot afford to maintain it.

When we gave it to him, we titled itbin his name so he was responsible for any acvidents he might have. If it was in any of our names, victim could come after any of us. Not that were the Kardasians or anything like that, but we all own homes and want to keep them.

That was very nice of you. 👍
Over the years I've learned not to help, even if I wanted to. Had a step sister. She inherited 80k from her dad. By the time she hit 25 , she was broke, homeless and methed out.
She called me a few years ago and wanted me to get her a hotel room. I said no and haven't heard from her since. 😊

Sad situation for you, my condolences.
To be fair 80K doesn't last long these days. It really doesn't last long if your addict.

best regards
