Fall Finale Campout 2016, in the Feather River Canyon the weekend of October 21-23. It's our anniversary and last year's camping was epic! The canyon is legendary for it's fall colors...the North Fork campground at Caribou off Hwy 70 was redone last year with showers etc. Several sites have electricity. All the sites are right on the creek. The weather should be crisp at night but pleasant during the day. Sites are $23 night. No reservations; last year we had the place to our selves!

More details to come soon. We will likely do a potluck on Sat. Hope you join us!

Kay & I visited that campground last August while we were on our honeymoon (1st part ... ;) ...) and were pleasantly impressed! Not sure what we'll be doing or where we'll be that weekend, but if we can get away, we'd love to join you!

CHEERS!

Just added this to my calendar! It's hard for me to commit this far in advance, but I love that area. Will stay in touch!

Looks good for our calendar so far. Will have to see what the DH says. It's beautiful up there.

:wine:

We were up there a couple weekends ago. One of our favorite campgrounds! Camp hosts assured me they would work with us as far as doubling up, etc. Gonna be great!

Can hardly wait counting down the days. I toured the three campgrounds a month or so ago and they all look good. Which one of the three are we going to be in?

Me, too! We will be in the middle campground, North Fork. It was refurbished a few years back; new bathrooms, showers. Nice! Remember, there are no reservations but the Camp Host is expecting us and has assured us we can double up if we want/need to. look to have 10-12 trailers...those of you who are thinking about it, PM me your intentions!!

If the weather holds we will give it a go. Not really into a "damp" gathering. Have gotten kind of spoiled with good weather camping. :D

This event is coming up in just a few short weeks. The canyon is starting to change colors...should be just about right for a visit!
Again, the camp host is expecting us; we will be able to double up if we need to , tho there are usually only 3-4 others in camp this time of year.

Potluck!! Saturday Night. We are bringing the 16' Dutch Oven and will probably rustle up some kind of soup or stew. No real rules! We have 10-12 trailers confirmed...should be perfect!!
PM me with any questions.

Cathy

Ten day weather forecast shows rain this weekend but sunny weather, with 0 precipitation and highs near 70 for our dates. Fingers crossed...it's looking good!

So just wondering when every one is going to arrive. I thought I might go up Thursday afternoon as I want a site with electricity. Got any idea how soon they might be taken? I would really prefer to show up sometime Friday morning.

We are headed up tomorrow afternoon. There should still be sites with electricity on Friday...they are not on the river side of the roadway, so are not scooped up. See you soon.

Thanks go out to our gathering hosts, Cathy and Leo, who did a wonderful job of coordinating this gathering.

Also, our campground hosts, Ron and Sharon had the campground in tip-top shape as well as making us feel welcome.

Here are a few pictures of the Fall Finale and the trip....:

Camping by this was music to our ears:

Fall color was just beginning to appear here and there:

This is the Summer swimming hole at the campground. In the summer, kids start here with inner-tubes and float 2 miles down the river to the Gansner Bar campground where somebody picks them up and brings them back to the North Fork Campground:

The Saturday night potluck was great!

While there are mostly adults in this picture, there were 24 adults, 3 kids, and 5 dogs in attendance:

We were entertained by musicians with 4 banjos and a flute:

A passing the hat chuckle:

Pictures of the drive home:

It’s not every day that one comes upon a bridge, water, a train trestle with a train on it; and reflected in the water, too. Using my trusty point-and-click camera, I barely caught it all. I just parked in time to run and take the picture! That little yellow spot to the very right is the end of the train.

Part of the Pacific Crest Trail is along Hwy 70:

An old Gold Stamp Mill along the way:

And simply a pretty picture...In some instances, the highway was on one side of the river and the towns were on the other, with narrow bridges connecting the two:
