First Trip Out - How to stop the MESS.

Hi Ladies,

I just had my first trip out in my little trailer, The Vortex, to southern Utah. It was a ton of fun and I will be posting pictures soon. But I have a huge learning curve to make up. In my large trailer, I set a few things in the sink and away we go on our trip. On arrival, everything will still be where I left it. Not so in the little trailer. Every time I towed it anywhere, EVERY single item ended up on the floor in the center of the trailer just like the center of a vortex. Maybe I should change the trailer's name.

What tips do you have for stopping this. I'm considering installing nets everywhere or velcro. What hints do you have or is this the charm of a small trailer?

You might think about tire pressure. I run my 1300 pound teardrop (radials) at 25 psi.

We were about to head down for three weeks in April but things shut down.

What great country to explore.

If the trailer is bouncing around on smooth, paved roads and you aren't going too fast, maybe put less air in the tires? My trailer tires are rated for 60 PSI but I run them at around 50. If you can on freeways, etc, keep your speed down to about 55MPH-ish and stay in the slow lane.

I had same problem with things flying around. For stuff in the sink, I fill a dish pan that fits right with everything I want there, then put a cutting board on top and a stretch band around the whole thing. Everything in the whole thing is secured one way or another. There are extendable bars designed for big trailer refrigerators that work well in teardrop cabinets, I use them both to keep things in and keep them down. They come in different lengths. Search for refrigerator bars at your favorite retailer including Amazon, WalMart, Home Depot, eBay, etc.

If your trailer is too light for your springs the ride will be very bouncy and throw every thing around. It also beats up your trailer.
