Members shared mostly positive experiences with Harvest Hosts, emphasizing that being fully self-contained (with an inside toilet and grey water tank) is essential, as most locations do not provide hookups. Stays ranged from scenic winery tours to less glamorous spots like driveways or restaurant parking lots, so researching each location in advance—using tools like Google Earth—was strongly recommended.

A recurring downside mentioned was the Harvest Hosts app’s poor mapping functionality...

You'll need to be completely self contained for Harvest Host, meaning an inside toilet and a grey water tank for the sink. But other than that we've had some nice stays at various HH. We took a Colorado western slope winery tour that was awesome. Make sure and use Google Earth to check out the location before you make a reservation, one spot we stayed in was literally in a families driveway :). Another was an asphalt parking lot at a restaurant. But you'll be fine if you do a little checking before hand.

Thanks Bruce..

We are self contained (Pictures of our build are here in our profile)..

Reading your message, a thought popped into my head, "We are definitely self contained, but we will need to research the area for dumping stations" - It would be nice if HH listed local dump stations.. and local places to fill your fresh water..

Well, I guess there is a downside - the app map is terrible. It's practically impossible to tell exactly where sites are located and I usually have to use my laptop or google maps on my phone to zoom into HH spots. So no help from the app on dump stations or fresh water.

I’m a member of Wander the West (another RV Life forum), where several of the other members use Harvest Host on their travels. I’ve never heard anything negative about HH from them. We have a neighbor here in rural NE Oregon who is a host, and when campers need it, is generous with power and water.

My 2¢ worth is give it a try.

Thank you.. we did sign up for HH and we look forward to our first stay. Even if we dont use it that often, a few stays will pay for itself
