Here one I haven't seen

Very interesting..... ?? but - trusting 're-enforced' ?? rain gutters ? ????? not something I would ever be putting my trust into, let alone..... a 'VW' braking system (  could just be a few reasons 'why' we don't see anything like this being used today out on the roadways.......????......  )

Did VW's have roll bars in those days? The rain gutters were probably the strongest part of the car above the chassis.

Tom

you're probably right - due to their design 'shape' = they did have 'kind of have' an 'inherited' rollbar setup built in - didn't they???

kind of wonder if a 'stock' VW bug from that era of the '70's could even get up to 55mph trying to tow something like pictured?? let alone, even being able to climb a hill also when towing it....???? Granted - I've never owned one, nor ever will - but after putting just over '1'million miles on a total of 7 Geo Metro's/Suzuki Swifts 'too/from work' over 30+ years (with both being of either the 3/4 cyl's) = I would 'NEVER' be trying to tow anything like this with one ............... :frightened:   = just my 'opinion' but = it looks like ""aero-dynamics"" is the one thing the whole set-up looks to have going for it ;)

The video mentioned they got 17 MPH which was less than half of what a stock bug got so that bug was working HARD!

If you've seen an old bug next to a modern compact car you realize that they weren't that small. They only looked small next to the typical land yachts of the day.
