I'm in the painting process on my build. I have 2 coats of exterior flat latex thinned about 10% as the base coat. I sanded with 120 grit between coats and after the 2nd coat. The canvas came out surprisingly smooth. I put the 1st top coat on yesterday (Sherwin Williams Exterior Satin in gray). I let it dry overnight and hit it this am with 320 grit (because I'm out of 120 and 220) and holy cow was it smooth. I just put the second coat on. I'm wondering how many coats is enough & how many are too much (is there such a thing)?

I've put as many as seven coats with no problems. But you should be good with three. Especially with a good quality paint like SW. I just used big box store's "oops" paint for the first couple coats and finish with a couple coats with the finish color.

Always exterior semigloss.

I agree w/Tim - three coats should do it. I went with Glidden Porch Paint (white). I figured it might be tougher due to it having to put up with weight, flexing, and exposure.

Yes, as you can see in my avatar the camper is mainly white. To keep it purty, I use off-brand magic erasers to keep the paint look just painted on. It works!

I used a satin finish - 3 coats on the whole trailer & a 4th on the roof.

I used a satin finish - 3 coats on the whole trailer & a 4th on the roof. Next (?) trailer will be white
