I've wanted a square griddle for bacon. I have also wanted to try grinding one down like the old stuff. I used an angle grinder with flap wheel and dremel with sanding drums for the corners. Then smoothed out with an oscillating tool with triangle sanding atttachment. Seasoned with refined avocado oil ramping up to just under 500deg over an hour.

I might try smoothing out my other skillets. Round ones should be easier to get nice n flat with a random orbital sander. Just might take longer.

Nice, curious on what you think about performance. I have heard arguments for both but have seen crazy expensive cast iron pans that come baby slick.

Have only used it once sofar. I warmed it and added a little olive oil to get things started. There was some sticking initially but that is typical of any new iron.

If I use it for pancakes I'm looking forward to the spatula not sounding/feeling like I'm running it over 60grit.

Thanks to one of my fellow campers right on this forum I have been treating mine with beeswax for 10 years and cook once or twice a day every day in iron. This no bake method takes 4 minutes or less and will last well over a year with proper cleaning and maintenance. If it get a bit grabby I simply repeat. The link above mentions oven baking to set the seasoning but I have found it unnecessary.
